A thread on EDC flashlights?

I'm probably the oddball here, but I do not like li-ion batteries in flashlights. I know the risk is low, but it is like a sealed pipe bomb in your pocket.

I've also been able to get fine my entire life without 1200 lumens on standby, so I've edc'd a now discontinued Fenix LD01 for the past 12 years or so. If I need some more horsepower in a light, I grab my Zebralight sc52w.
 
I have been using the Streamlight Microstream for about 20+ years. The first ones I had used alkaline batteries and they were a tough little flashlight. I accidentally ran them through the washing machine a few times and it didn’t do anything to them, dropped countless times and still work. I have since upgraded to the rechargeable lithium battery model and they are just as tough. I carry one in my Arc sheath that has a elastic loop tube that fits perfectly. I’ve seen some of the newer designs in other brands that have other features that are nice and im thinking about trying them out. But the Microstream has been a great little flashlight for me and has performed extremely well. 500 lumens in a small flashlight has been a huge benefit for me and stays charged a long time.
 
I know there are a couple threads over in the Gadgets and gear area of the Community sub forum but I’ll throw this in here. I have used Streamlight flashlights for over 30 years and find them to be extremely well made and reliable. About 9 years ago I started carrying a Microstream daily, and still do at work everyday. Plenty of light for finding that last can of soup in the back of the pantry, the one Cheerio that fell out of my bowl, rolled off the counter and onto the floor or looking for whatever is right in front of me in the garage (although I swear it wasn’t there when I looked 12 times before). For whatever reason I sometimes wouldn’t mind a bit more light so I grabbed a Microstream USB. Love the light and figured it was about perfect to always have in my pocket. My only complaint, and it wasn’t until I started thinking about it, was the micro usb charging. I did start using 10440’s in my original Microstream and even picked some that recharge with a USB C cable. As I have upgraded devices, everything I now charge uses USB C cables. The other day I was able to grab one of the newer Microstream USB lights that use USB C charging so my issues are gone. First world problems, right?

I will give a shout out to this little Olight though. Small enough to forget you have it but bright enough to search for missing Cheerios. Easily replaceable aaa batteries.

Do you have a photo of your light on your sheath? I am in the market for a rechargeable pen light as we speak. I have been eying one on Amazon. Uses AA if needed and comes with a clip. Anyone have or tried this?

I have an Olight ArkPro Ultra EDC Flat Flashlight, Rechargeable Portable Flash Light. It has a Green Laser, a UV light, and a flood light. Watched it in use of Dave's Garage on YouTube, The UV light is used to scope out oil and refrigerant leaks. You can add fluorescent additives to oil and refrigerants and the UV light will help you scope out leaks. You can charge it via USB-C, or magnetically.

Fenix rechargeable flashlights for the last 15 years now. Small one for spring/autumn and large one when the winter comes. Winters are very dark here and large flashlight with large battery is more frost resistant = better output and longer battery life.
 
Olight ark ultra. 1700 max with over 200 meters throw.
Matches the profile of a clipped pocket knife in alternate pocket. Balances you out.
Feature rich for its design and size.
Intuitive controls.
Powerful laser for work or long distance attention getter.
Ultra violet comes in handy, checking hotel, cleanliness, and also very useful for scorpion spotting if you live in that type of area. Kept my dog from getting stung.
I use daily and have gone months still showing over 50% batt
Charges easily with a USB-C. Clear battery meter.
Accidentally ran over it with my truck with not even a scratch on it. Extremely durable coating.
Can’t say enough about this flashlight.

On the YouTube Channel Dave's Garage all of the mechanics of issued one I watched how versatile the Olight ark ultra flash light is. I never thought about the folding knife form factor. On the Olight website they have this version of it.
