A TOPS Tracker that I REALLY like (! ) Mini Tracker Necker

I still say that is one UGLY knife. ;)

:D I tend to agree..... not only is it the "Inspector Gadget" of the knife world, but it has the baby moose syndrome REAL BAD. :p

None the less, I would give this new, smaller addition a chance by at least handling one before I want to pitch it into the nearest garbage can. ;):D

Sorry Joe, this mini version just smacks of trying to make the proverbial silk purse out of a sow's ear. Another mostly macho design with marginal practicality.

I still think there are better versions of the WSK than the TOPS version !:D

Its a necker . IMHO a necker kinda falls into the category of always having a handle that falls just short of being perfectly usable. That is my humble opinion though, as I favor 4" and above for handle length for long term use (which a necker is not?) If I had my choice for use for hours I would prefer some micarta over nothing, but for a necker, I already think this odd design goes above and beyond the call of what I would ask normal necker to do. I normally keep my neckers sharp as a scalpal edge rather than a working edge, only for the most delicate tasks. However, I've been dreaming of a scandi grind for the back grind since I picked up the knife, and it would be cool to have an edge that I could pry bugs out with, experiment on bone, cut roots gingerly, baton fatwood cross grain, (all of those with the front end) and still be able to shave hickory bark easily with an undamaged scandi grind edge in the back.

The Tracker is what introduced me to custom knives and because I could not afford the outrageous sum of $555 for the custom version then, and do not want to grind down the full sized ones- this one may actually become my second TOPS knife, especially as it is thin. I never see them in person so I'll have to wait for you guys to show me more of what it is like in hand. Definitely interesting.

I always thought that the TOPS Tracker looked funky when compared to the knife from 'The Hunted'. I just now realized that it's because TOPS did a really lousy job of copying the custom Beck WSK that was in the movie. I mean, you look at the two knives side by side and you can't help but understand why so many people think that the TOPS Tracker is butt.

It is because, when compared to the original, it is butt. :barf:

Nope, I still like this necker!
