A tough hypothetical

OR, else, I'd have to wrestle KypDegal to the ground and take that beee-yuu-tiful AUCK from him! ;) Damm that is one fine knife.

But, I must say, the original scenario called for nothing Custom.
Sorry Kyp, your blade must be confiscated by the SkunkWerX knife police. :D

Hehe... Thanks, Skunk. You'd have to do some serious wrestling though, I'm not parting with that blade 'til rigor mortis sets in. :p

And, erm, I actually didn't see that clause about no customs. But hey, rules are really more like... guidelines, right? ;) But if not that one, then I'd probably go with either an Opinel #8 or a Fallkniven F1, though I don't yet have an F1. I'm not buying any more knives for a while, have to buy knifemaking equipment. :D

Edit: Oh, almost forgot to add, that Northstar looks grrreat, Longbow.

Yeah, the eye candy caught me and I couldn't resist.

Whoa, nice sheath, too! Might I ask who made that?

Bark River Knife and Tool (BRKT) made the knife, but the sheath that came with it really pulled chrome off the tail pipe, so BRKT hired a guy in Europe to make these sheaths. It's OK, but just OK. I'm constantly on the lookout for a better one.

What is that wood knob-- firesteel or sharpener?

It's a Light my Fire, Swedish Army model firesteel with Oak handle.

Although I've never seen one in person, I'd give some thought to one of those Graham Razels.

I only get one?!?! :o That's tough :( Are you sure I can't touch ANY other knife for 10 years?!?!?! I suppose if I was cursed to be able to only use one knife for 10 years it would be a Busse Ergo Badger Attack.

HMMMMMMM, wonder what the price difference is?????[/QUOTE]

Well, they aren't cheap and are very hard to come by. I can tell you I won't be in any position financially to buy any more like it for quite some time. That being said, I have absolutely "No Regrets" about getting this knife. It is worth every single penny of the $450 or so it cost me to acquire it. This thing is built like a tank. I don't go into the woods without it now.

Swamp Rat Knife Works Satin Battle Rat. If a situation arised where I could not have a choice of any other knife for ten years, knife laws would most likely not be a concern.

First off I want to say I really like Kyp's custom Ranger! How long is that blade - 5" (?) - How about overall? - Sweet :) - I might have to get me one of those sometime

I think about this issue every time I go out of town. ...And it looks like this year will be no exception - and then there is hurricane season. Plus the fact I am 'on the road' allot each day now...

I've got the folder thing covered. The question for me is regarding what 'one knife' fixed blade do I want to commit to? And it's a tough question:

The "best" knife I own is most likely my SR Camp Tramp. It is a superior blade. But quite heavy - and with a multi-tool in the sheath pocket it is more than I will comfortably carry at all times. Outside of a serious hiking trip maybe. Without the extra weight of the multi tool it is tolerable - but just a bit long for my short arse... Same applies to my vintage carbon V CS trailmaster. Excellent blades but just too long to carry all the time comfortably for a short dude like myself.

I have two offerings from Blackjack: the Grunt by Knifeware & the AWAC from the original Effingham Classic Blades era... Either of these are serious contenders in stainless. Very different knives but basically of a size - either would be an acceptable choice. And I have been using the Grunt allot lately too...

In the ~4" blade range there is the Benchmade fixed Griptillian I rehandled with boot lace cord. This is an excellent little FB and I did a decent job on the wrap. Then there is my CS Master Hunter - another favorite. Both of these are excellent knives in and of themselves. But if I am tied to a single fixed blade, something a little larger is my preference. It just is...

I keep coming back to my CS SRK. With the shoulders ground off the edge it cuts like a MF'er. I used it to prepare lunch today & it cut meat as well if not better than the Grunt does. It is a bit thick for veggies but will do in a pinch fr those too. Bottom line is, it is stout carbon steel - tough enough to withstand everything from throwing to prying, digging hacking batoning etc... I'm sure the Grunt would serve me well but I just trust the SRK a little more.

...So after 3 years and more than a few knife purchases I have come full circle; I'm thinking the SRK will be my hurricane knife of choice for EDC if & when the power is out for '07 - just like in '04

Sorry didn't mean to rankle.....well maybe just a bit.

Different strokes and all that but the day I pay 450 dollars for a knife, and a plane jane knife at that, is the same day that I hit the powerball. Yes sir, better show me some ivory and gold for $450.00. But never mind me, I am a southern Applachian hillbilly that thinks a pocket knife and an Old Hickory is all I need.

LOL... no probs runningboar. Rankle away ;) If you had told me a year ago I would be putting over $1k into 4 users, I would have laughed my arse off at you. I dunno, I guess it's like you said, "Different strokes". All I know is that these knives "do it" for me :o

busse, meaner street le. hands down, and i have some great stuff.

this one is small enough to wear and not be seen , but large enough to handle what i actually use a knife for.
