A tribute to dad

Right now, it a Barlow (I'm pretty sure it's an old Imperial). I remember always reaching for it in his tool box when I was a kid.

He had a few others that stood out...one was a Kabar Little Finn (which I have now) and the other is an Electrician's knife. The Electrician's knife is a standard "Sears Craftsman"; one blade, one locking flathead screwdriver/wire stripper.

I must have used each of these a million times! I'm sending him a 505 because the world seems unbalanced now that he doesn't have his old pal in his pocket...that should make it better. :)

Thanks for letting me know. He has a nice Son in you!. You are very kind to have shared the tribute with us as well..

One more model you might enjoy seeing(and perhaps already know about) is the following Buck # 703. For a 3 1/4 inch closed frame it sure has a helluvalot of cutting steel.. :) One of my very favorite small Stockman's

Hey thanks!

The 703 is beautiful. I have a few 303 stockman and 309 pen knives. I don't think Buck gets enough credit because they really do a nice job with the traditional patterns.

I wanted to pay tribute to my father who carried the same knife for over 20 years. It's an unassuming little Buck lockback that was always in his watch pocket.

I decided to get the same knife and see why he like it so much. It's a Buck Knight model 505.

Twirling it around in my fingers I can start to see the attraction...small, light, and classy. The grip is more of a three finger affair than a typical full fist grip.

This thread prompted me to dig out my old Buck 526 Executive. Basically it's the same knife but on a very slim stainless frame. Handy little bugger indeed and it absolutely disappears in the pocket. I'm still a peanut guy through and through, but I do really like these little Bucks.

I have an Executive that I've kept in my wallet because it is so slim!

Here's a comparison shot...

I've often considered getting it engraved because it's such a good platform to do it on...some day.

Actually, that's a Gent. The 526 Executive (which I fear Buck no longer makes) was the same pretty much, but has a polished steel blade and the edges on the handle were buff/polished and rounded. Pretty much the same knife with some extra finishing TLC. Maybe akin to Case's handworn line.
