I picked up a mint Killa B a while ago but couldn't decide what to do with it. I ended up giving it a two tone finish with INFI dimples and an underground curly Koa handle with micarta pins and stainless lanyard tube. turned out GREAT! It looks like a FAT meaner. I went with a white polishing compound finish on the koa and it pops like crazy. This is the finish I'm going to go with from now on. It really shows the curl of the wood much better than linseed oil and it looks just as good in low light as it does in direct sunlight. Only thing that bugs me is the micarta on the butt didn't pinch together perfectly so I had to fill in the small gap with epoxy. I guess it looks fine and is 100% structurally stable but It would have been better with a perfect junction. Anyways here are the pics.

Dude! That looks fantastic!!!

Much respect for you for your custom handle jobs...they all ooze of quality and just keep getting better and better! I wish I could afford this one....

To me the Killa B is so unattractive I can not look away fast enough. I never even looked at the shape. You took that blade and made a thing of beauty. That is a fantastic looking knife! Great Job!

Yeah, that is a little hinky...

KalEl, obviously we like seeing pix of modifications done to Busse's here...and I will add that this knife looks good with the new handle...however, this is NOT the place for showing that which lands on the X 12 minutes later... To me, that is advertising, plain & simple, and this isn't the forum for it.

Do it again and I'll yank your thread offline and give you an appropriate infraction. We are not going back to the days where certain (now banned) Dealers pulled these unscrupulous tricks to sell their knives here... The ONLY members allowed to advertise sales of Busse knives here in the Busse Discussion forum are Jerry Busse, his Crew, and his Authorized Dealers. Capisce?

BTW, this applies to everyone here not mentioned as an exception above.

Jaxx,

I never intended for this to be advertising. Many a hog on this forum do custom work on their knives and enjoy sharing it with others. There are no rules stating that you can't start a thread about a knife and then post it in the exchange. Other members start threads about their modifications, rehandles etc... and then post them for sale. I don't see a rule that explicitly states I have to wait X amount of time between sharing a modification and posting it for sale and if there is please point me to it. I don't want to break any forum rules or offend anyone, I just want to share a cool handle with some fellow hogs. I do have to sell this particular knife for financial reasons but I do not see posting it here and posting it in the exchange as advertising and the rules of the forum have not led me to believe this is advertising either.

I have seen many people post threads about their modifications and then seen their modified knives end up on the exchange, is there any specific prohibition or regulation concerning the amount of time between posting in the busse forum and posting in the exchange? Again if there is please show me and I will be certain to follow all of the regulations. I love this forums and always attempt to respect the rules, but rules must be concrete and in addition to this clear and consistent. Next time I do a modification or rehandle I and end up wanting to sell it I will wait to do so but again if this is going to be enforced I would like to see a specific rule made that is clear and consistent so Hogs who want to share their work and are low on cash do not end up being penalized. I love seeing modifications and rehandle jobs and it was the work of members in this forum that inspired me to start making handles.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I respect and appreciate all you do for this forum and want to keep Jerry's forum as orderly, friendly, and free from advertising as possible.

H, there is no specific rule, but when you dont even give it 20 mins in between posts it just looks like blatant advertising. Esp when it occurs in similar fashions on other occasions. No denying you did good work, i for one hope you share more of it in the future.

What is the appropriate amount of time then? Since there is no rule regarding it? I don't have a link to the sale thread in this post or mention that I plan on getting rid of it. The only way you could know if the knife is for sale or not is to look in the exchange or personally ask me.

I think its more a common sense thing myself. Most people (possibly more?) who come here go to that direct link above the main busse page (busse exchange). If you upgraded to a maker i think that circumvents the whole thing tho : p (<stupid comment, didnt really put much thought into i admit)

Eta- if you are stuck on a definitive time id say after you sell it or at least give it a day or two man. You can be technical all day but dont you see how it looks a bit off?

ettagain-
If you want to apply this unwritten rule fairly to all members then anytime you post a picture of a knife with one of your well crafted kydex sheaths in this forum and then sell said knife and or sheath you should be subjected to the same penalty Jaxx has suggested I receive. By logic your hypothetical post would be no different than my post.
Though I have never posted a thread here about a sheath Ive made, if I ever do, and then post a sale thread 10 minutes later, or hell a week, in the other busse forum, please call me out on it. If ya wanna be a lawer about things, yeah, a many of us advertise on here if we post a pic and eventually sell it, but sometimes if it walks like a duck,,,,,,,,,,. No need to be so winded about it. A simple, "yeah, it makes a little sense:thumbup:" and thats it, happy ending.

That doesn't cirucmvent to issue at all. The issue at hand is advertising in the busse forum regardless of membership level. Jaxx references dealers in his post. Having a dealer or makers membership does not allow you to advertise in the busse forum. What is at issue is whether or not my post constitutes advertising and if there is a rule that pertains to it. Regardless of the rules I will wait from now on if I end up selling a knife I rehandle or modify. I apologize for upsetting you but I stand by my assertion that my post was not advertisement.

Again I will not post my knives in the exchange after posting here but the fact remains that I did not break any rule ( that I know of) of this forum in doing so.

Also this is not the apporpriate forum for discussing this matter. Please start a thread elsewhere or PM me or Jaxx if you have any more questions or issues you would like to discuss.

KalEl, this is in gray territory. Yes, others have sold knives that they've modded and shown here. However, this is where courtesy comes in. 12 minutes from here to the X leaves more than one member thinking that this is advertising, me included...a few days, maybe not so much. You had to know when you posted this here that you were already planning to sell it right away. On the other hand, had you listed the knife and it sold, then posted the thread in here, then there wouldn't be any question, know what I mean? No this is not a rule...yet. However, having to have dealt with others who pulled this and many other tricks to sell knives, it come down to the unspoken thought, which is "If member A got away with it, then I should be able to do the same too.". Next thing you know, we have a forum full of modded Busse threads with all those knives listed on the X within minutes or hours... And much like society, when an abuse of the system is discovered, a rule is created to stop it. That certain banned Dealer is a prime example...several new rules were created by the site owner & Admin., Spark here on BladeForums due to his manipulating the existing rules by exploiting loopholes and pissing off other members.

...Which is why I took no action other than to make my intentions known on the subject as a warning. If it were a rule already, I wouldn't have bothered to post. I'd have just removed or edited your post and given the infraction.

BTW, I do like the mod. It does make the Bee look very nice...much better than the way they look as is.

I may have to check, but as I understand it, Dealer/Materials provider members can't advertise in discussion forums either. If any other Mod reads this and finds that I'm wrong, please tell so me here or shoot me a PM. :)

Thanks for the informative reply,

I never meant for this to be advertising and it didn't cross my mind that it would come across as advertising because I didn't put a link to the sale thread or make any mention of intention to sell in my post. I DID intend to sell this knife but I posted it here because chatting is not allowed in sale threads and I enjoy the discussion and advice on finishing techniques etc... that other members have provided me. I don't want to get into the legal gray area that I know other unnamed dealers have gotten into and cause trouble in this forum BUT there was no rule or precedent to guide my posting or prevent me from posting.

I was not aware that this would cause any trouble until your post. I will no longer post my handles on this forum if I intend to sell them. I understand common courtesy and want to maintain the polite and friendly atmosphere of this forum. I greatly appreciate the advice and tips I have received from other members concerning handles and was simply hoping to share my work and hopefully get more pointers from the awesome hogs who do modifications and or make their own knives.

I apologize to everyone I have offended and upset by posting. This will not happen again.
