There's no Home Depot around here. The closest is a 6 hour drive.

lol, I assumed the same thing and figured you were close to Fairbanks area. Anyhow, if you want them/need them I work 3 blocks from Home Depot and can pick them up for you on lunch break and can ship them north to you if need be

It's a Cobra Stitch (also called a Solomon Bar)

Wicked idea, I'll have to give this a go myself sometime, thanks for the post.

Just an FYI, they make side release buckles with a whistle built in, like this. They're great for chest strap buckles and stuff, and I'd assume a project like this.

Seems like the matches might break if you bent the bracelet more than normal though?

Not from normal wear. I think you'd have to try to break them. When you cut them in half there's less to break and the bracelet is pretty stiff if you weave it tight.
