A *VERY* Expensive JYD II!

Just returned from the NYC Knife Show, and while passing this one booth, I happened to notice a knife that looked familiar:

Liking the look of the JYD II....or a knife made to look like one at least - I asked "How much"...and he replied "62"....and I was like "Wow! $62! I really like this one....I can't believe its so cheap" (already checking my wallet for the money ;-)

The gentleman looked at with me with a snicker "Um, no, that's $6200!..I just bought it for $6K and that is what I am selling it for"

Boy did I feel stupid :-) I should have known better too - since every knife I like at a knife show and I point to and ask how much - hoping to God the person says something LESS then $200...I usually hear "Oh, that's $795", or "Oh, that one is $900".

Some BEAUTIFUL knifes at the show, let me tell you. If only I was rich......................

Oh...and I met and spoke to this gentleman:

I think it's someone we know of around here ;-) Very nice man...being into knives and knowing of him I felt like I was meeting someone in Hollywood! :-)
 
It sure does look nice, but I'm not sure it is $6200 nice, maybe some of the beauty is lost in the photo.
 
:D Tim sure can make great looking knives, I checked out his website not to long ago and unfortunately it says he is not longer taking orders.

I've seen plenty of damascus patterns that did not photograph well. Okay, I couldn't figure out how to get a good picture of them. The more contrast between alloys, the better.

I would have a hard time dishing out that kind of cash as well, even if I had some amount of disposable income. Especially when I have a production Ti/SG2 JYDII with custom-like fit and finish.

Let me ask you something what was the price range on his folders. He was the only reason I was really going(I was hoping to snag a flipper about 3 1/2 to 4 blade length)? 4 days before the show I was able to get the Graham bros knife I wanted so I didn't want to go to the show just to torture myself.

Damn...I know I asked, but I forget what he said - but if I didn't get one, and I was loving the Orange one he had on the table - then it had to be over $200...but if I recall correctly mid $300's....but don't hold me to it.
 
That sounds about right for a show price on that, probably just over 400 retail. Now I don't feel too bad I could not have afforded both. There is always next year.

A custom Zing would probably start around $350-375. CF or more exotic types of micarta for handles would be higher.

I'd guess $450-475 to start for a Havoc and north of $500 for a Q36 or Devastator. Not sure what the Variable would go for if he had any there.

Years ago I couldn't decide between a Hinderer Firetac Extreme and an RJ Martin Devastator. I really just need to become independently wealthy and then these dilemmas will just go away. lol
