Your hands are your next biggest asset in the woods other than your noggin', and a split or ripped nail can be crippling when you're in the middle of nowhere and have vital tasks to accomplish. Nail clippers are compact and easy to toss in a pack, and can avert or remedy most of these kinds of damage. Who else carries 'em?

I have the large Fishing clippers made by Berkley I keep in me bag JIC

like so

figgered they have a lil more versatility then normal clippers

I take them when backpacking. A sharp toenail corner can seriously hobble you!

Nothing worse than a split or pulled back nail, that's why i keep'm short!! I keep a pair with me at work and while fishing. AG Russell has a pair I've been wanting but just haven't sprung for them yet.

I keep a SAK Classic on my keychain, and just use the scissors and file. Also, the tweezers are a lifesaver at work pretty much every week!

I have a few flat cloth envelopes 3.5" x 6" that I think are supposed to be compass pouches. I use them for boo-boo kits: rubber gloves, bandaids, alcohol pads, sliver grippers, beeswax lip gloss, nail file, and nail clippers. I usually have one in every briefcase or gear bag.

Some weird post changing goin on here !:playful:

Thought I was goin nuts !!!!

One thing I always do with mine is file the edges so they actually line up. Every producer seems to grind them with the jaws open, so they don't quite match when closed. I hold the jaws closed and do a few quick strokes and suddenly they work a ton better.

That's a good idea. I've used a Sharpmaker rod on all my clippers at one time or another. It really helps.

I just use my knife. It ain't what the girls at the salon would use, but it works. Of course I don't wear gloves outdoors either, so take that for what it is worth.

I use my Micarta scissors, cant say I trust my axe to trim those nails, especially in the "off" hand!

Always carry a pair or two. We go rock climbing and shredded nails are a huge problem. Nail clippers solve the issue. We always carry a small nail file as well. Some might see it as overkill but it's a nice luxury during a long climbing trip.

Got a toe pair with the fishing stuff just 'cos they're easier to use on line with full hands or swaying about. A regular pair live on my keyring - have for years.
