A vital piece of gear that's often overlooked--nail clippers!

I use my DMT Diafold as a file. Works great. But in my opinion there's no substitute for clippers. I've tried using scissors and the don't get as close and put strain on the nail in an uncomfortable way.

Good point about using a DMT for nail file. During long climbing trips I've used various smooth rocks as files! But as you've stated, nothing works as well as nail clippers for trimming.

True Utility makes a compact compound action nail clipper. The file on the outside is scratchy, so I cover the whole thing with a large PVC screw protector. The neat feature is its ability to be carried on a key chain without eating its way through your pocket.

Well aren't those cute? I like the look of 'em. :)

Rough Rider actually started making some European-styled clippers. The quality is about on par with a standard pair of pharmacy generic clippers (not premium, but they work and work well!) and they offer the low profile of the European style ones (that are usually $15-20) so I plan on tossing them in a few kits.

Nail clippers are a real darned good idea! I'm sure you can find other uses for them too.

Wenger that is always around(better nail clip than Victorinox IMHO )
I've never seen nail clippers by Wenger before. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Your hands are your next biggest asset in the woods other than your noggin', and a split or ripped nail can be crippling when you're in the middle of nowhere and have vital tasks to accomplish. Nail clippers are compact and easy to toss in a pack, and can avert or remedy most of these kinds of damage. Who else carries 'em?

For years now
A serile SAK Classic in my FAK
It has sissors, a nail file, and tweezers
The sissors are very sharp and sturdy enough even for toe nails

If you have toe nails rubbing when you are hiking then it can be an instant blister or sore

I keep a pair in my FAK in my pack, a pair in my truck, a pair at work etc.... I bite my finger nails (old habbits are hard to break) but can't stand when my toe nails are long. If I can feel them in my shoes or boots I have to stop and cut them.
