Photos A Walk in Nature

Cool pic 😎
Nice walking stick 👍
Is it from Zion National Park ?
Trying to decipher the hidden clues in the pic 😊
Thanks - I found the stick several years ago in Sedona, Az and have taken it hiking across the US. I collect hiking stick medallions and put the Zion (Narrows) one on this stick. I've made about 40 sticks since then, keeping about 8 for myself. No hidden clues - just out for a hike today in Will County Illinois Forest Preserve McKinley Woods - a prime spot for bald eagles. No eagle sightings today.

Ain’t walking in no nature today 😆
-31 C = -24 F 🥶

That’s it… I am moving to Texas 😎

YIKES Dan  You beat us by quite a bit. We got down to 5°F (-15°C) yesterday and NOW -11°F (-24C) with 20 mph winds. More than plenty cold enough. Good call for you not to go walking.

This was just a photo. Wanted to wear my extreme winter gear. I only get to do this one or twice every couple of years. I was very very comfortable. You can see the snow shoes were not needed. Very thin snow cover. There has been a paucity of snow this season - so far.

UPDATE : - 8° F at 9:30 so we are well on our way to balmy.

Some pics from a midweek walk in the park :)
Thanks for taking us along Jack ! :) I enjoyed the plentiful swans. We got them here too but not in such numbers all together.
What we got in GREAT numbers are Canada Geese :D
That's a very nice GEC fixed blade  and your faithfull HHB looks splendid !

A polar vortex they call it, it should be over by this evening and by tomorrow they are calling for a very balmy plus 3 C with showers. Such drastic changes in temperature.
Nice winter gear my friend :cool:

I've made a couple sticks.

The birch one in the middle of the pic about 12 years ago. I remember my then 4 or 5 year old daughter telling me " You should not destroy nature" when she saw me cutting down a birch sapling in one of our walks. Ouch ! ( in my defense there were a great many sapling crowding each other for space so I hope I helped by making a bit of room:))

The one on the right was from a branch a coworker brought from his house me from some fancy tree I forgot the name.

The one on the left I got at Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick at the Hopewell Rocks.

Today in the afternoon it warmed up to a balmy -20 C ( -4F) .
I still was not in the mood for "nature walking" 😄 however I thought that climbing to the summit of the ❄️ pile my kind neighbour made with my walking stick would be worthy endeavor  ( I also could not help but wonder how Moses felt parting the Red Sea 😄 )

Thank you very much Dan :) Yeah, I normally only see swans in pairs. THey're clearly getting fed too well on one of those lakes! I left the geese pics out, figured you'd seen enough! :D ;)

February 5, 2022

A year ago this day marked the beginning of Diana's fight with cancer when we noticed a hard and irregular lump on her breast.
It was Saturday. We walked the trails with our daughters, trying but unable to put the worry and anxiety out of our minds.
The weeks that followed proved very challenging.

Today's walk ...
A year has passed... countless studies, blood work, chemo, surgery, radiation, etc. Diana has been very strong throughout it all but God only knows what she must have gone through in her heart.
We are encouraged with the hope that the worst is all behind.
I know she needs me more than ever now ... I know that she is afraid too.
God, help me be there for her always on the road of life ahead !

She was 17 and I was 20 when we first met the day I arrived in Canada with my sisters to join our parents that were already here as immigrants.
My then "future father-in-law" picked us up at the airport that day and then drove by her school to pick her up :) .

My one and only, my 4ever ❤️ !

You two are a strong couple to weather that storm. I hope all will be well in the future.

I managed to get away to the river for a couple of hours this morning. I walked along the C&O canal towpath from Swain’s Lock to Pennyfield Lock and back - a flat, easy 6 mile stroll. It was a little cool and breezy when I started, in the mid 30s, but it warmed up to near 50 by the time I was done, and the sun felt wonderful.

I tried to take a picture of this downy woodpecker that landed in a bush just feet from me, but this is the best I could do:

It’s nice to have an outdoors getaway in the middle of what is otherwise a pretty densely developed area:

You two are strong alone but even stronger together.

Well my friend, you and Diana certainly walked some rugged miles this year. You carried a big pack but she had twice the load and continued on unyielding.
We were cheering you on but still it was your inner strengths that brought you through. You (you both) climbed the mountain and sailed the seas - stumbled a bit and struggled mightily, endured much and suffered too but through out, your good cheer and generous spirit prevailed never failing to appreciate the majestic views as you came upon them and ever holding tight to your love and commitment to each other. It was my honor and pleasure to be with you both a bit during this epic year. I got to see in person the love and good cheer that holds your family together. You are blessed. Walk on - sail on my friends - enjoy these new days - you have earned your respite. Cheers!
