A walk in the woods, a cup of tea, and traditionals

Pete - that´s a great scenery and landscape. Thanks for showing this off. It must have been a great day doing that walk. Wonderful nature impressions. :)

BTW: What are those snow fleas? I´ve heard about that kind of creature nor have I ever seem some. Insects and snow - I always thought that would work... but thanks for the lession :)

Lots of interest in the snow flea :-) honestly I don't think I ever noticed them before yesterday, the snow was pure and fresh and mine were the only tracks, so as I was following them out in a stretch of tracks for about 25 yards I noticed in advance that all my prints were peppered black? when I got up to the tracks I knelt down and investigated and took some pics. They looked like fleas in the snow? When I got home I asked my wife if she had ever seen them and she had not, so I looked up snow fleas ( thats what I was calling them in my head ) and they do exist. They appear on warm winter days, they were only in the depressions of my foot prints nowhere else for a stretch of prints in direct sunlight for about 25 yards, I thought they were interesting.

Just wanted to add, that 1/2 way on my way out I ran into the only other person, women in her mid 70's cross country skiing by herself I thought that was very cool.

Thanks for explanation, Pete :) Interessting little creatures that snow fleas and they really look like fleas.

Strange that they only appeared in your footprints. Somehow really cool, if you ask me :D

Perhaps because they were disturbed/uncovered there? Strange creatures indeed.

Just goes to show that you don't need much to have a good, relaxing time outdoors.

A few years ago I decided to ditch the fuel canister and screw on burner type stove, you don't need much to enjoy a hot meal or beverage, the kidney shaped canteen and stainless steel kidney cup I have found perfect. A few twigs and a few minutes and a nice hot whatever, no need for a raging fire on a afternoon hike.

Bwperdue, I am happy that you and others enjoyed, I wasn't going to start a thread, just post some pics in the Sunday picture show, but if anyone wants to keep the thread alive with their own pics of day hikes with their traditionals and simply approach enjoying the outdoors, a cup of tea, coffee, soup etc. would be great, It would be nice to share and see what others use and enjoy scenery from around the globe.

I'm just about to head out the door for a little outdoor time. Will try to take some pics and post them here if they're any good :)

Hope the weather there is better than it is in Leeds today. Enjoy your walk

Pete where is that pond? I don't think I have ever been there. Nice pics. Wish I was there. Too bad I couldn't do that at the Ipswich Wildlife Sanctuary.LOL

Wow Pete, what a great time with great pictures. Inspired me to get out to one of my favorite spots today. Will try to take the camera!!!

I like your idea, where did you buy that set up?

Thanks,

It's also my favourite set-up. I've had the same US Army canteen since 1978! :)

I sent you a pm, also I was kayaking the Ipswich river a few years ago, my wife and I would go every weekend, go up in the morning and come back down in the afternoon, I got out at the Mass Audubon to stretch my legs, I thought they were going to call in the national guard on me, I though we were going to rumble :-)

Pete

Mlamb I sent you also a pm

I'm in Norway at the moment, and the weather was amazing. Didn't get time to take any pictures I'm afraid, but made a little fire and some sausages. Then a man came by and it turned out he actually lived in the woods around here with his dog (propably a hobo, but he seemed happy). My Douk-Douk was very useful to cut some firewood and a spear for the sausages.

A nice day :)

Sounds like a great day :)

Enjoyed this thread a lot thank you.

Would like to get out myself but still recovering from an operation that kept me inactive for some weeks. It's bright now here in March but still down to -23c at night and thick snow, the birds and animals have a hard time at this end of the winter when it stays cold. I put out feed for them (seeds&grease balls for birds, hay&pellets for the Hares and Deer, even if they do try&chew my young trees!) I'll be able to go on a good walk soon but can't do it alone yet, too risky, but I always enjoy a brew-up during a walk-seems the right compliment to it all! Plus taking a few knives along for the trip :D:thumbup:

Perfect spot for perfect day,no wonder you keep coming back there
