so i went for a walk today with a few new presents. i cut some wood, made some shavings, started my first fire, and jsut enjoyed the scenery. im gonna have to get my family to start doing this with me. it is fun. though the kershaw was a bit painful when i was carving the wood, ill have to get a new folder for woods use...oh well was still freaking awesome:D:D:D cant wait to go again. maybe ill grow someballs and go into the "deep bush' of florida" haha  cheers yall and happy holidays

by the kershaw hurting me i meant that it was painful to hold and push down hard on. the wood was pretty tough in some places and the meatal just pinched my skin.

Looks like ya had a good time. Them little kisses from your tools will go away as soon as you build up some tough in your fingers. :D Get yourself a Mora for the wood working chores. No more pinches, but I'm certain there will be a cut or two along the way. :D

BTW, when you said you had lit your first fire, did you mean it was really the first campfire that you had built and started? First, congrats if that is the case. For those that are newcomers to the outdoors and building their first fire, there are certain conditions that warrant careful selection of the site for the fire, or having to make a decision to cold camp it without a fire. One major one would be, if there is moss, or dead floral matter (pine needles, etc.) on, or in the ground. Even when the fire is extinguished, it can continue to burn in the moss/matter in the ground and spread to other areas quite a distance from the original fire site. Dry brush in the immediate area is another. Especially if it's downwind of the fire where sparks are likely to fall. Making sure that we build our fires in a safe and efficient way and we are mindful not to trash an area up when we visit, is all part of good stewardship and will help to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same wonders that we have enjoyed in our lifetimes.

ya it was the first camp fire i started. adn i made sure i built it on sand with a good distance beetween any dead leaves/needles/ etc. its all good. im still here adn so is the forest. and i am getting me a mora. im not sure which yet. i am laning towards either the m2k or the 780 i think it is. cheap and good for woodwork. exacly what i want =] was a blast today:thumbup:

Somethings wrong with your pics, theres no snow there!:D
Always nice to see someone actually using their knives, I might have to post some pics of me cutting up the christmas tree when it comes down.
