I took my overly-hyper 5 year old for a walk in the woods the other day...let her get out and run like the wild little creature that she is :) . We went up to Walden's Ridge and went for a walk on Persimmon Branch Road.

Was good to get her out of the house for a while. I did manage a shot or two of her laughing and smiling....but the main view I had was her back side...

The greenery was really easy on the eyes...

If it had been something less than 99F with a heat index of 103 I would have put the tinder bundle she brought me to use.

Several of these were laying around...the brown thing, not the knife :)

I do really love the symmetry of this knife though.

I think these were the last of the Black Berries in the area, they were looking pretty rough.

Alayna found a lot of flowers to enjoy...luckily I managed to keep her from picking all of them.

More than one flying insect about, I caught a few in pics but missed the one where the large hornet was checking out Alayna...because i was too busy watching Alayna's reaction.

Thanks Mike, yeah she always has a blast when she can run wide open :)

I can definitely sympathise with the wild part bro.

thats always good to see mist.. glad you got the pretty girl out and let her rip and run and enjoy nature. good stuff

Thanks for sharing the pics 'Ol Bud....Looks like she had a fun time ! Love the DragonFly pic ! Cool looking blade you were packing

That's cute

When my nephew(he is 4) is over we always take walks in the woods. He always asks me to go for a hunt, ever since I told him I was hunting for fatwood and wild edibles. Good times enjoying the outdoors with him. Only chance he gets when he lives in an apartment with no woods around.

Looks like you two had a fun time! I just watched a hornet carry a full size cicada off the other day. I was astonished, the cicada was bigger than the hornet lol.

What a beauty! The scenery is great too.;) Thanks for sharing. My little ones love it outdoors and think running wild is the best thing since ice cream. Shoot, my older kids are the same too come to think about it.:D

Thanks for sharing your hike and your daughter with us Mistwalker. Four/five is a wonderful age. So many questions and trying to learn it all. Sometimes accepting an answer that makes no sense to them as if it is the most natural thing in the world, other times arguing the simplist of things as if the future of the world hung on their convincing you that they are right. And learning to wrap daddy around their finger all the while!

I miss my kids being that age, and don't get to see my granddaughters often enough. Thanks!

Great stuff as always buddy but I'm gonna put ya on the spot now....Ya Fletcher Knife or the Fiddleback...if ya had to pick one....don't worry about them reading your answer they are too busy making knives to read this forum !:D

Thanks man, she's a lot like I am in liking open spaces.

Love that second picture mistwalker - keep that memory 'cause they grow so fast. Nice knife too:).

Thanks and yes I know...seems like yesterday her sister was this age, she'll be 17 in a few days. The Bushfinger is sweet!

Ha...I'm still trying to decide what her first one will be....

Great pics Mist. Its good to get out. Even in this heat.

Thanks Jake, it's always a few degrees cooler up on the mountain but still pretty darn hot.

Thanks Dennis, glad you enjoyed the pics. My daughters are very likely the best thing I have ever done....even if I don't always want to admit it :)

It was a great time. Hornets are pretty amazing to watch. We have a lot of what I believe are Japanese Hornets around here. They are about two inches long, yellow and black, and loud when right in your ear. They are about as long as the cicadas, just not quite as big around. I've never been bothered by one, just checked out but I was too busy watching Alayna's reaction to try to take a picture. I was afraid she'd swat at it when it got up in her face but she didn't, I was proud of her as she just looked at it while it looked at her. I'm not allergic to bees and neither is my wife, but my mother was severely allergic so I wanted to be ready to deal with a situation if it occurred.
