A Walk In The Woods With The Little One

God bless you my brother. I have 4 girls now...and they can keep you stressed. but they love their Dad.. 15-14-4-1..man, I am an idiot. just kidding.
great pics, she is so cute!!
I bet she had the BEST time, I take my 4 year old with me all the time, and she loves the one on one time.
She also knows all my knives...she likes Kukris best, she thinks they are "cool"

Mist - you pick the knife - I will make the sheath - pro bono. Gotta start the youngin's right!

WOW!! Thanks bro that's an awesome gesture!! I've been looking at Andy's smallest models trying to decide on one for her...and seeing if I can get him to make it not quite so sharp to start with. The handle will need to be small in diameter but be about 2.5" - 2.75" to leave a little for her to grow with it with maybe a 2.25 - 2.5" inch by 3/32 blade or so. Something like a mini Arete. I'd like to catch him while I can still afford him lol, but I am not sure if he makes one quite that small and he's not taking orders right now.

Beautiful and cheerful pics. Thanks.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed them

Thanks bro, I have two, one 17 and one 5 and yes they can be a handful...but lots of joy too. Alayna loves our trips to the woods, I am so looking forward to the cooler months. She watches me closely when I am working with my knives prepping food and starting fires and stuff. Sometimes she'll gather a small bundle of sticks and say she is starting a fire...but she hasn't done that this summer (smart girl eh?).

Don't you wish you had the energy of a 5 year old? Heat does not slow them down!
Glad you had a nice day out with your daughter. :)

No...heat doesn't slow her down at all lol.

I'd give anything if I could syphon off a little of her energy, she'd never miss it :D

Sometimes accepting an answer that makes no sense to them as if it is the most natural thing in the world, other times arguing the simplist of things as if the future of the world hung on their convincing you that they are right.

My daughter who was three at the time saw the half moon and wanted to know what happened to it. I tried to explain about the earth's shadow but she didn't want anything to do with that so I told her a snake was eating the moon. She wanted to know what kind of snake could eat the moon and I told her a giant space snake. Oh she said and skipped off happily.

Awesome pics. I have a Son that age in addition to the older 2. Kids that age are like Jack Russel terriers. Bundles of energy they have to burn off.
Great way to do it!

Nice to see kids in the forest. I am father of three boys, so there will be many adventures and knives in the future. That knife is simply stunning, who´s the maker?

G'day Brian

+1 :thumbup::thumbup:

Kind regards
Mick

:)

Great job, Dad.

Excellent pics, too.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it.

Great pics! Good times.

Yep, I had a lot of fun at this stage with my oldest, I'm looking forward to autumn for so many reasons at this point.

That's hilarious! Alayna saw the 1/8 moon the other night and said "look, the moon is broken, now it looks like a C". I tried to explain the shadow as well. She no, it's not a shadow, it's just broken.

I know, I wish I could steal some of it :)

Wide open spaces do her/us a lot of good...makes her sleep better later :D

Sounds like you have many fun adventures in store!

It's a "Bushfinger", and it's made by Andy Roy of Fiddleback Forge. It's an awesome knife

Here is the thread from when he made it...

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the thread. Lol, just because you're not looking for Sasquatch doesn't mean he can't. I got my first f.b. when I was 6 I plan on Alayna already having hers by then...she just turned 5. I'm working on knife responsibility with my smaller kitchen knives with her. I think it is better to teach them right early on...before the "cool factor" sets in and they get all these preconceived notions going on that interfere with real learning.

If you ever find your way down in Oklahoma, we'll have to set up a semi-wilderness playdate. Lol
