A Watch. . .

I see that some of the Citizen Stiletto watches are 4.5mm thick and 30 meters waterproof, for just over $200. Anyone have one?

Get a Citizen Eco-Drive. It's a quartz watch (very accurate) and never needs batteries. There is a solar cell behind the dial. Any type of light will charge the watch. I've had one for a year or so and it just runs. Fully charged they will run for 6 months in the dark. I like this one.

even 30 ft would be overkill

Do you want to be able to swim with it on? The water resistance ratings on watches are only static, movement through water puts greater pressure on the seals and can cause leakage this hold true even in shallow swimming pools. If you plan to do any water activities greater then washing your hands I recommend you stick with 100m or greater. That is a good looking Citizen just be careful around water.

That idea has been refuted in great detail on the technical forums at timezone (though it still deludes some newbies and idiots on the general forum). Search my posts over there.... Briefly, even the worst case scenarios of high dives and overturning a speedboat add pressure amounting to about a meter or so of additional depth.

Get something with a screw down crown.

Ive got a citizen, it was around $250, Ill see if I can fine it online, its a simple sleek design. Not heavy, gold and silver.

Means hang out with your wang out :p

Screw down crown is a good point, I would like that feature. I assume most watches have it, since even my cheapo timex did.

My requirements are:
Screw down crown
At least 200 meters WR
Self winding

i have an eco drive, though not that particular model.

mine is a dive series, i think its called the "orca". probably doesn't suit your needs, but ive been very happy with the eco drive. no batteries, of course. more importantly it keeps much better time than my hamilton khaki auto, which i love.

I'm straight on that :D ... Done buying watches for a while if not for good. Found my holy grail watch, a Z series SD. Before that was a Tag alum bezel Aquaracer and a Seiko 200m.

My watch evolution... Left is newest.

The idea that a screw-down crown is somehow a good thing is another popular delusion. It was the first solution found to the problem of waterproofing the crown, and it still works, but it has the disadvantage of applying friction to the seal with pressure, every time you tighten it and every time you unscrew it, which causes the seal to wear out. It's okay if you replace the seal frequently enough, but all the other methods of constructing a waterproof crown are better.

What you say makes sense, so why do the manufacturers say that their 50 meter watch is for swimming only? Do they pump up their depth rating to make the watch seem better than it is, or does everybody but me go for a dip and routinely dive to 49 meters?
