A water-tight survival kit

I checked and it's not a prescription medicaton. I went to their website and you can order it directly from them right off of there, around $22 a tube. I put together another kit in the same tin to show what you could fit in this thing. It's in a whole new thread, did you happen to see that one Don?

That's good news, perhaps we can get it cheaper!

As for looking at all of your survival kit threads, holy cow! ;)

Very cool kit so far. Things I would want, if possible, I have used "oragel" as a local, area aside from teeth to help the pain of a wound. If you could find/think of a type of benzocaine or other topical, to be used in an area of sutures. Its hard to sew your self if it is hurting like all get out, so any kind of local (even inject aera as in diabetic syringe) Well that or other types of analgesics that could help with a minor surgury. I know in Canada they have an over the counter med called 223s that have a small % of codine in them. (I don't know if they are legal here?) But what I'm getting at is dull an area that will be, or is in accute pain. Also anything as close to a script antibiotic is a real life saver. That would be first on my list, as infections are a nightmare outdoors. Well even indoors. Its to bad some simple things are not made for use by the AMA so things like this could be much more effective. Great looking start to your kit. Can't wait to see one in final form. Enjoy edgy
PS even that post OP cream, the orange stuff..I can't remember its name, can be bought without a script. Its used to steralize an area before surgury. would be very good.

With the tin being somewhat small there isn't a lot of room for medical items, so you really have to choose carefully. I guess that's the reason I always have my bug out bag with me also, which is STOCKED with everything. I always look at these as an absolute last resort so it's just a matter of triage of what goes and what doesn't. You have some really good ideas though. I'm going to post up my bug out bag soon and you'll see all the stuff I have within an arms reach or so. Thanks!

I placed an order for that Amerigel this morning on their website Don, it ended up being around $25 total. They have a few other items like a wound wash that look really good too!

You will not be disappointed with that stuff. I have been using it for a few years now and it is great. Beats the hell out of everything else like it. Plus as the doc told me it's made for DEEP wounds and that's why they tell everyone to use after surgery and they have had great luck with it. He said infections are almost zero. I use it on my dogs all the time as they are always getting a scrape or cut running around in the woods.

I use OraJel to, it's the samething as Anbesol. I just said Anbesol because I happen to have a new tube sitting on my desk that I picked up from the dollar store. It doesn't matter so long as it has the 20% benzoncaine in it.

Last summer we were in a park and a little five year old girl was running around barefoot and stepped on a bee. I went to the car and got my little kit and put some on the sting and after a few seconds and some tears, she was back out there running around....with shoes.

I could of used some of that when I had back surgery a few years ago. My incision got infected after a week and I had to be put on HEAVY antibiotics to clear it up.

I might have missed it, but I always make sure and have some kind of oral analgesic like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen (my preference as it is a good anti-inflamatory also). Pain restricts movement and often movement is survival. I.E. Reducing the pain and swelling of a sprained ankle could significantly increase how far you could travel in a pinch.

Yeah I didn't have any inside this kit. I carry prescrition painkillers with me at all times due to a bad back. I did stick some in the kit but I just didn't put them in the pictures.

@Don Rearic
+1 on the TegaDerm. my buddy works at a hospital and has gifted me a few and they are great.

I used to carry "band-aids", they fall off if you do anything. Now I cary about 15" of duct tape wrapped around a 3.5" long pencil. If I get a cut I just fold up a 2x2 gauze pad and slap duct tape over it. Hangs on through dang near anything!

I use a pelican 1040 micro case http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1040 I like your idea of Aluminum however, nice to boil or cook in for sure. Ive been moding my kit for the last two years do to prac app. but this is what I have ended up with.

I know what you mean. I've duct taped and super glued more cuts closed on me than anyone should. The only brand of band-aids I've found that stick really good are Nexcare, if you get the Active version they're pretty damn water proof. By far they're the best ones that I've found.

I remember my Grandma just using Black electrical tape and cotton balls to bandage our wounds/Gashes etc. and telling us to quit yer crying and go play...
not sure if it was 1st aide on the cheap or if it worked ? :D

Back when we were kids, you could do that. But now they have all sorts of ignernt superbugs to come along and eat you alive. :D

I know what you mean Tony. I remember coming in the house with a big scrape or cut and unless my arm or leg was about to fall off my grandparents would tell me to stop complaining and go back outside and play. It couldn't be any more different these days.

Hey 333rm. Sounds good. But I did say I would post some pics of the size and the 20% benzocaine option. Just because I said I would. And because it works very well! I have had to use it. enjoy edgy
