I don't think they need or should need defending as I'm sure you all agree, but I ran across this video and thought everything in it was well said.

We all know that Bucks 420HC just plain works, and so do all of their bread and butter models which utilize it, regardless of the fact that they're not made for or ideal for being bashed through logs.

man do I want to clean up his work bench area a bit.........

I sent a friend of mine a Buck 839 mini Deploy in S-30V. When he got it his first words were "I didn't think Buck made anything modern!".

Lots of people have heard of Buck knives and think of it as a generic, old school, dime a dozen, product baby boomers carried that are (for some unknown reason) constantly dull. Maybe as kids we get introduced to them after finding them in some old tool chest in the garage, or a forgotten tackle box, or in the back of dad's junk drawer.

To most people "buck knife" probably means something that looks like a 110 or a 119; and they probably haven't bothered to look at the website and just assume that any Benchmade or Spyderco will be better than that 'old Buck knife'.

Yet that " old buck knife " got to become old, and I'm not sure what some of this modern type stuff will look like in 50-60 years.
It's a shame that a lot of people allow themselves to miss out on something so great based on misconceptions.

Never occurred to me that Buck Knives would need a 'defense'! If you know, you know, if you don't, well too bad for you. Best warranty, best service, and best working knives available, and still USA made (all the ones I'd want). OH
Ps not directed to you Hickory n steel Hickory n steel - I realize you simply reported on what you saw.
I completely understand, I certainly don't think they need or should need defense and there was a time where I had no clue that ignorant people were putting them down for nonsense reasons.

never intended to collect Bucks. Bought the first one as a hunting knife. I was young and had a couple kids. bought it because it had a good reputation and wasnt going to break the bank. that knife employed a few americans, which was also important to me. over my short life ive come to appreciate things that last a long time and are not overpriced... buck really lives up to that. I have bought more than a few users from buck since then. still makes me happy to see americans making a quality product and a company backing it up with warranty when they dont. i think most people that hate on buck, do so because they see them as "cheap." They probably also have 30k in cc dept, a 500 dollar truck payment (to take them to their office job), and a closet full of clothes that wouldnt keep you warm and dry out on the trail... so their opinion doesnt hold much weight..;):D

wish truck payments were only in the 500 range still..........

I bought my 2015 Tacoma new. My payments were just under $300 month for 3yrs. Wife doubled up and we paid it off.
My forever truck!! πŸ‘πŸ₯°πŸ‘
No more. 😁

can't do that anymore. payments for 50k at 5% gonna be around 750 range even with 10k down on a 60 month. pretty hard to get any truck for much below 50k unless used.....

I miss the 500 payment days......is what it is......

Yeah, I bought my GMC in 2015, and since I retired I don't put the miles on a truck like I used to. It's been garage kept & has low mileage, so there's really no need for a new one.

As for house payments. In 1975 I bought land & built my first house, a nice bi-level, for under $28K. When we settled, they said the payments were $290/month, and I thought O-M-G! We're never going to be able to pay for that! But, we did.:) I lived there for 25 years, until the kids were grown, then we moved way back in the sticks, into a farmhouse built in 1877. We've been here for 25 years, and we're not going anywhere.

As far as Buck knives needing defended, I guess they're not for everyone, and that's fine. I still have my first 110 that I bought about 50 years ago, and it's seen some stuff. I've never had a problem with any Buck's standard steels, like the 440, or 420HC, but I think the addition of S35VN & Magnacut is a big improvement.

My Tacoma stickered out at $26,000 change!!!! 🀣 $ 50,000 is what I paid for my house in 81 !!! 🀣🀣
John :)
yeah neither of those things ever gonna happen again. be happy ya got what ya got when ya got it.

I remember my grandfather told me he bought his house for something like 2.5k...in 1940s just before he joined the war......he said that was a fortune back then. now that's a single month mortgage payment.

I wish I paid what he did...and also wish I paid what ya did, for my place.
