Storm report:

yeah, it was a bit breezy. Lost fencing and a window, lost power until ??????

What we did right:

have several months of food, ditch bags, wet weather gear, lights, candle lanterns, cooking stoves, plenty of iodine, water, etc. In fact, for staying put, ditching by car, bike, or on foot, we're prepared with a few tiny exceptions.

not enough diapers! We regularly use cloth, and the whole laundry thing is a bit rough right now.

propane supplies! need to triple what we keep on hand, we could be out by sunday night- so we'll "cheat" on the exercise and use our house gas stove, since the gas is still on.

Ham radio batteries. Got 2 generator sw sets, lots of AA transistors radios and methods for charging phones and batteries in the cars, but not enough battery packs for the ham radios. Need to get a couple more sets.

Everything else is running perfectly. including the social network- lots of gentle candlelit parties and people out in the neighborhood doing safety walks and looking for downed lines and etc. (including "snakes", but honestly, the worst we've dealt with is a homeless dude who couldn't figure out why the walk signal wouldn't work)

we have been getting dumped on over here lately.... we lost power from 9 am-9 pm yesterday.... it took my wife forever to get home from san jose...

Wow, sorry to hear about that guys. We haven't had any problems at are place, or at my grandfathers in Los Gatos, where we are house sitting, yet. Knock on wood. Hope you get your power back soon coyote.

for us, it's actually great. there's power in the region and gas in the lines (and fuel in the auto), so it really is a dry run of sorts- if we were totally unprepared we could go to a minimart.

A local Czech who owns a bar opened up by candlelight last night, too. was pretty fun.

Mike- that road worries me on a Good day.

You guys are still out in Davis? I got my power back about lunchtime today in the little town of Weimar (A couple minutes from Colfax).
I took the opportunity yesterday to drive my girlfriend to the shops to try to spend some holiday vouchers - no other shoppers:).
