A wilderness survival multi-tool question

.... I bet any multitool of quality make that's well broken in like my fuse is could be opened one handed if you really had to, but In a wilderness survival situation i'd probably like something with an awl saw and file like the ST300.
I think so too, but I haven't tried it. Might do that when I feel like playing around for the knowledge. You can do a lot if you have to even if you experience some pain doing it. The saw comment in a survival scenario in the outdoors is a good suggestion and a good reason to bring along a SAK that has a saw if you don't want to carry a larger folding saw.

I'm with jackknife on this. In the civilized part of my world my sak Huntsman is dynamite. In the civilized part of my world there is generally help of all kinds around. When I hit the bush, a long way out or just a mile or two off the road I always have a fixed blade and a small folding saw along with something to make fire with without effort. The bic is good.

I agree. Which SAK is pretty much up to your preferences. I normally carry a fixed blade in the woods for emergencies primarily. The one-handed thing does not escape my notice. A SAK saw is generally plenty of saw to get small kindling assembled for a fire. Yes to a Bic lighter and yes to two methods of fire starting when in the woods. Fire is about the only thing that I find to be an absolute need especially in cooler weather. If you have a small pliers based multi-tool, the little pliers might be sufficient to grab the blade and open in a worst case situation.
