• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

As we get closer to winter I like to add a small piece of camp mat to my kit.
I find it insulates you from the cold, wet ground when you stop for a break.
It can also be slid down your shirt/fleece front as a windblock and adds a little extra insulation as well.
The weight is next to nothing and they roll up quite small !

Pink? Is that your wife's pack???

JK. I do the same thing. It's a warm, dry place to park your butt if you want to sit down.

Come on Doc...that's "signal pink" for our San Fran "guys"...my VS-17 military signal panel is both orange and pink....international colors of rescue and love:D Heck I think Brian Jones even has dual purpose underwear that's pink:D

I always keep a small square in my pack for sitting down and a 3/4 pad is handy if you need to sleep in an improvised shelter. A sleeping pad is often overlooked (yeah, I know you can get natural insulation in most places), but really makes a big difference in protecting you from heat loss through the ground.

Oh, that's what the little ones are for?! I always wondered how you were supposed to sleep on one of those...

Don't listen to those guys Pitdog, just come down and visit me, you'll fit right in in San Francisco.
