I was spoiled today by not having burnt fingers like you get with 0-1!!!! :D:thumbup:

A2 is cool as butter to grind on compared to 0-1 :) :)

I am suggesting this to beginers from now on!!!

That looks like it is going to be a bad blade!

It was definitely easier on the belts compared to the ATS34 I used on my latch batch of knives. I like the design on that knife.

Knife is at 65 RC waiting on draw down :)

did you hardness test it in the as quenched state?

I read somewhere that that is dangerous? Maybe i'm wrong !!! (again lol)

I never seemed to see a difference grinding A2 Vs. O1 with a 40 grit belt. Maybe flat grinding is different?

I tested the 1/4" thick steel on the handle area near the butt. Never heard it being dangerouse?

I just wanted to see what the hardness was on it to make sue it was quenched okay.

I'm sure 1/4" stuff would not apply so much with it being so thick! I just heard somewhere that testing stuff that's not tempered could cause the blade to explode into fragments like a grenade ! Maybe they were pulling my leg ! LOL.

I can see where thinner stuff would be a risk :) I haven't ever had a problem even with 3/32" stock.

One I bought a while back. Benchtop type. This one is heavy! I can't remember where I ordered it from. It was like $900 shipped I think. I think it was from granger or some supply seller like that.

Nice blade once it is finished. I burned my finger on A2 once, but I do think it is a slightly better steel than O1. The industry has basically been abandoning O1 in favor of A2.

A-2 is a fine all purpose tool steel, I have used it on everything from skinners to choppers. 65 Rc. at quench is dead on.

I used to burn my left thumb to the point the skin would calous and then peel off and then it appeared like a chunk of it was missing back in the day when i used a sears 4x36 belt sander !

why didn't i think of that a few years ago? Then again, I was grinding with the grinder in the horizontal position

I learned to hollow grind the Loveless way. All freehand no workrest no pushsticks. I still don't use a workrest but my thumbs covinced me after a few blades that using a push stick was the humane thing to do.
