A2 steel, knife snob

Extrema Ratio uses N690 which is a cobalt steel. According to some, this is excellent material and tough as nails. Their blades come in an impressive 6.3 mm thickness with a razorsharp edge (flat grind or concave depending on model).

Thinking about it, it may have been over 2 years ago. It was talked about on BF but for the life of me I can't remember what part of the forum. Its definately German made, the example knife was a folder and AFAIR it was featured in Blade magazine.

Rostfrei! :p

I like A2. I also like D2. Oh, and s30v. They all have slightly different strong points, but for the knives I have, they work well (mostly small and folding knives).

Definately check out BRK&T knives for nice A2 blades.

Without a doubt D2 is the best, IMO. It is the steel I use the most in making knives. I feel it must be cryo treated to reach it's maximum performance. For plain carbon steel I like 5160. It may not hold an edge as long as some of the super steels out there, but it's a snap to resharpen with little effort.
