I am a newbie knifemaker!

This is the most friendly and helpful place, glad I stumbled onto it.

All Yours Merls,
If you would PM me Your shipping address I will have it out the door at the end of today.
Sincerely,
Dave

Message sent.

I'll keep you posted with my progress when I get to making something with this.

Thanks so much for the generosity

Sweet! Make sure you keep us posted with progress.

I have only finished one knife. Took me forever by hand.

Smokin deal. All i use is A2 due to the fact that it is the most often handled steel for the machines that process coffee and Macadamia. TRANSLATION: The heat treat guys are masters with it and I can get any size I want.....cheap. Just ordered some 1/8" by 3" for some chefs knives. I'll hot blue them to resist this tropical climate.
A2 may very well be the best knife steel ever invented(discovered). D2 is almost a true stainless.A little touchy for me since the heat treat guys aren't experienced with it and I have no need, or desire, to set up a heat treat operation here on my farm(botanical garden).I find it amazing that more knife guys don't us that steel. C'mom 5160 and 1095 ? Gimme a break.

Hi Tilaran,
Plus, 36" of it at MSC costs $80.
A 10 pieces lot of mine or 71+ inches costs $70. Almost double the amount for less than half the price.
This was my standard stock for stock removal knives for many years. And in a tool room setting I used it for 30 years.
Sincerely,
Dave

Good price for sure. Problem is anything ove a couple of pounds go to the custom idiots in Puntarenas and, like all Nazi govt"employees" they toss a tax on it for whatever strikes their mood that particular day. They just nailed me for $45 for about $130 worth of sanding belts and a handfull of drill bits.
My step brat is headed down next month with his golf clubs" Every pocket will be loaded with a clip of 2"x3/16 cpm154 and D2. Where theres a will there's a plan.A2 here is reasonable as is 5160 ( which I consider useless). The main deal for me, at this point, is heat treat. A2 is like coffee to Costa Ricans. I had some 1/8" hardened to 64 ( kitchen knives) no problem. Other blades I tell them 58-60. Perfect every time. That's important.
I'll see how they do with the D2.I don't think I can even buy it here ??? A few you tube videos and a call to Mike Snody(fully fluent in Spanish) can be game changers.I don't want to get into heat treating. Betweenmy animals, cabins and botanical garden tours I'd hate to make the time of the heat treat process. I damn sure will if I have to.I prefer not to have to.I'll spend a couple of daus in San jose( Satans underwear) and steer the guys on the D2. They do a good job on 420HC so I think the 154 should be easy enough. I'll get on the phone with TK(Steingass) or Jim Wharton if need be.I can make it happen.

Dave, Received your package yesterday, looking forward to getting started with that blank (and having supplies for future projects).

Dave was generous enough to include a couple of pairs of scales for handles, so ill be working with what's in the picture below for my first knife. I'll post a thread once I get some work done so that I can take advantage of the wealth of information on the forum.

Dave, if you feel like parting out one of the batches, I'd be interested in buying a few pieces. Another tenderfoot here.
