Well, I took some of the steel I got a couple weeks ago into the quality control department at work. I was told by the steel yard these pieces were 1075. The QC department told me that it is closer to A6 as the carbon content is %.73 but, it also contains %2.24 manganese. I got 4 pieces. 14 ft x 4 inches x 1/16th inch. It is not completely annealed or cold rolled as it will slowly rip the teeth off a good bandsaw blade  Drillable but, just barely.

Would appreciate any knowledge and comments on this steel. If anyone is interested there are about 12 more pieces at the yard.

A6 also has Cr and Mo ,does yours ?? Anneal at 1200 F for 2 hours then it should cut OK. Then make something with it.

I've been seriously considering getting some A6 and layering it with L6 to make damascus. With all that manganese, the A6 should etch really dark. The austenitizing temps for the to steels are close enough it should work.
How would you like to part with some of yours? :D

I would part with some no problem. Like I said I bought 48 ft of the stuff at about a buck a ft and the have a bunch left. How much do you want and where do you live.

I noticed the specs for most A6 has about .2 % Cr. They never said anything about the crome or mo.

I have a A6 blade made by Scott Shoemaker, not sure if hes making knives anymore... He made knives in the style of Tom Maringer, wire wrapped handles and so on.. If I remember correctly, in our correspondence, he mentioned that it was tougher than A2, but harder to finish.
