Looks like my Spyderco Southard is MIA after my hike yesterday. It may turn up around the house, and I really hope it does, but I'm not holding my breath.

Damn.

After losing several knives I've vowed to never carry a knife without a lanyard. I notice the Southard has a lanyard hole...

I think I'll just transition to a fixed blade for my hikes. This is the first knife I've lost in almost a decade, pity it couldn't have been an inexpensive one.

Fixed blades are great on hikes. Folders are fun, but few feel as solid and ergonomic as a nice fixed blade (IMO)

I agree with fixed blades for hiking. Safer, more hygienic, lighter weight.

But if you don't have it securely attached to yourself or your pack somehow, it's no less "losable" than a folder.

I felt bad because I lost one of my favorite Zippos yesterday. My loss was only about 20 bucks, so now I don't feel so bad.
Hopefully it will turn up for you....

I think I'd punch a wall. And then order another one. If one of them shows up, sell the one you like the least. How were you carrying it? Do you think the clip got snagged? Did you modify the clip at all?

I just got my hands on a Southard, and I don't want the same to happen to me. The pocket clip seems to have strong retention for me.

I was carrying it clipped to my back right pocket, next to my wallet. I rounded the edges off the clip a bit, but didn't change the tension. I'm already on the hunt for a new one, need to find a pretty good deal though, toy money is low right now.

Man that sucks, I hope you find it. Check under your car seats and everything too. Also, check the bottom of your seat belt. There's a small chance it could have snagged on the seat belt and it's still clipped to it.

I've checked the car, my pack, the laundry, and everywhere else I can think many times. Will keep checking though.

I hope you find it man!
If I carry any folder (even beaters) I take a piece of rope, tie one end through the lanyard and I tie a loop in the other end. Then I thread the loop through a belt loop on my pants, and then thread the knife through the loop on the other end of the rope! I haven't lost a knife yet!

Hope it helps!

Dang, that stinks NeverMore, sorry to hear it. The last few times I lost something -- and was dead-sure it was gone for good -- it eventually turned up. I'm hoping the same for you.

Keep us posted, buddy!

Sounds like overkill to me lol.

Have you considered returning to where you hiked? Or would that just be too much a needle in a haystack?
