Aaaaaaaaand it's gone.

Damn sorry to hear brother, that does suck.

I've luckily never lost a knife(knocks on wood) believe it or not.

A fixed blade does sound like a good choice for hiking though.

Maybe it'll turn up around the house and won't be lost forever.

A Southard is one I'm considering picking up very soon, just stuck between it and the TUFF.

Guess well see which one I go with first lol.

Have you though of contacting your local BSA troop or whoever uses the trails regularly and offer a reward for the return of your knife?
Or if the area has geo caches, post on one of the geo caching sites and do the same thing.

Just a couple ideas anyway.

A few years ago I was helping judge a high-angle rescue competition and found an old Puma Game Warden...

Nevermore,That just sucks salty donkey eggs! Hope you find it bro! I find the best way to get lost things to turn back up is to buy a new one . As soon as you spend the cash that you really did not want to spend, the lost one shows up.If you don't find it you can think of it as you made whoever found it a REALLY happy mofo.

I think this is the third person I have read on the forums that lost a Southard that was clipped to their pocket.

I've had two Southards, but sold them both. Not knocking them...they are great knives. Just had to trade for other things. Sorry you lost your folder, but at least it will still be there the next time you hike that trail. As for the fellow that is also considering the TUFF, I have one of those. It's a great design in 3v, but is an inch longer and 50% heavier than the Southard. It's more like a folding fixed blade, and really takes two hands to open it. Gosh, I'd hate to lose any of these folders. Perhaps a fixed blade is a better idea for your long hikes in the wild.

Well, I was going to recommend retracing your hike but I see the terrain could be a challenge. Still worth it in my opinion, looks gorgeous there and if you find it there is $200+ still in your pocket, along with a good hike and fun memories! Sorry to hear of the loss, I hate when I lose something, makes me feel sick.

You were hiking where? I have some free time for a free knife!

Seriously though, it is a damn shame to lose such a nice knife. That is why I barely like my Mcusta Katana. I can only just barely, in good conscious, carry a $100 folder. Pass that and I am just paranoid about it being damaged or lost.

Sucks to lose a knife to start with, really sucks to lose a nice one, don't give up hope, I lost a Blackie Collins Joggin' Buddy and it turned up in a canoe I had that I used the year before.

The lanyard was looped around the seat so even after the trip home on the roof and a year in the woods behind my barn the nylon lanyard saved it.

Now it was no Southard but the lanyard saved it, whenever I go weed wandErin' I already always take a fixed blade and a folder with lanyards.

Hope ya find it

Crappy feeling to lose a knife! I lost a benchmade auto at a local pond years back. When my father passed it was replaced with the one I had gotten for him. Knife replaced but not the way I wanted, that's for sure. Good luck with the search, I hope you find it. I've also replaced a Spyderco Volpe when I thought it was lost . It showed up the same day the new one I ordered came in. Just my luck I guess.

Lost a griptilian in the woods and couldnt find it, this was 2 weeks ago and every time i go for a walk i cant help but to look for it. Hope you find your southard

I EDC a Spyderco Ladybug, I bought two of them 4 months ago from County Comm because they were the only ones
making them in H1 in either tan or orange scales.
They were fairly inexpensive 4 months ago so I bought an orange and a tan, now there are no more in orange left and none being made.
Now C.C. raised their price of the tan up to $44.50... so as you can imagine I don't want to lose them (two is one, one is none).

The Ladybug is too small to really dummy-cord, so what I came up with is I use a Tumi magnetic money holder, which has two
very strong magnets sewn into the leather, the knife sticks to it very well.
Every time I have to use the knife I just stick it back on the Tumi and into a zippered pocket.
Larger pocket knives with clips ALWAYS get dummy-corded if hiking or into the woods.

Okay the magnet holding the knife in placed is a bloody brilliant idea. I feel like you accidentally discovered that carry method?

You are absolutely right... it was by accident.
The first day I put the Ladybug in my pocket, it stuck to the money clip, the rest is history.

Looks like my Spyderco Southard is MIA after my hike yesterday. It may turn up around the house, and I really hope it does, but I'm not holding my breath.

Damn.

I'd be doing the slow 12 mile hike again as others above mentioned. I really hope you find it and soon!

Losing nice knives really sucks.
