Ok i have the choice of either getting a camp tramp or a battle rat for my b-day and i can't decide on which i want!!!!! Please help me pick the knife that will initiate me into ratdom?!

I am a fan of big choppers so my vote goes to the BR. I feel medium size knives don't do anything exceptionally well. They are alright choppers and alright skinners where if you get the BR and couple it with a HF/Coot you have knives design for 2 specific purposes that will cover the full spectrum of camp chores. Just MHO

I haven't handled either, but if it were for me, I'd go with the Camp Tramp. I've got a 16" Ang Khola, and I think that it adequately handles the kind of chores that the BR would.

Tough choice...Camp Tramp or Battle Rat.

Either way, you'll be one happy Rat!

:D

both models have been discontinued in their old configuration, and we are all eagerly awaiting what the new versions will be.

Aside from that, I vote for the battle rat. It was my first Rat, and is an incredible blade.

I would go for Battle Rat.
The BR is a little bit heavier than CT but the length os the blade is of 2 inches longer. This is very useful for chopping.

I think either would be a good choice, I lean more towards the camp tramp.

Id just get the Ratweiler. Right now you would be paying alot more for a knife that is dicontinued. Or you could wait for the new versions to come out.

I've had both for several years now and, if it's not straight out chopping I'd go with the Tramp, or it's present incarnation, the Ratweiller.

~7" blades just feel more 'right' to me for balance and whatever for overall use.

What I actually carry is more the Howler size blade, but that is due to concealment issues and comfort. This is on my belt.

The CT makes it into my workbag more often than the BR, but both get used at work.

Grab whatever is available, you won't go wrong.

I have both, but the camp tramp gets the most use due to its versitility.. However as they are both discontinued, I would go for the ratwieler or wait and see what the new line will bring..
