ABANDON SHIP! What do you grab from your pack?

1. First aid -all
2. Food/Water at least one way to purify water (boiling, tablets)
3. Bug net and tarp for shelter
4. gloves- 4-5 hanks of cordage
5. GPS radio

These are what I would grab, Honestly l think you need to weigh options by weight/knowledge/usefulness. I do not have the knowledge to want to try this, however with these things I think I could make a go of it for a few days/weeks.

You would very likely be JUST FINE with the 5 things you listed. You could even ditch the cordage because natural materials are abundant down there. In about 5 minutes I could show you 10 different things to use for natural cordage. I've got a video of the making of fabulous twine down there from the young stems of a palm tree. One of these times I need to edit it and release it. Also there are numerous vines etc that you can just grab and use.

If you know what you're looking for, there is a buttload of food in the jungle. We brought along a bag of rice but everything else we got was either fished for or foraged. And, BTW, you do not need fishing tackle to catch fish. You can make a hook from a 'cat's claw' thorn and you can make the line easy enough from the palm tree. I've got a couple videos up of wild edibles in the jungle. I've got a few more to make and TONS of photos of wild food. For instance, here is a fruit you find growing everywhere. Not sure what it is really called but we called them jungle apples because they taste like granny smith apples.

Here is another fruit we found all over the place that tasted like lychee nuts.

Although it is not native to the area (I've heard), you'll see breadfruit trees everywhere. If you boil the nuts they taste like chestnuts.

Finally, there are more fish than you can shake a stick at. This one was caught in a net by a sandbar in the Amazon river. I've also caught them on lines and by spearfishing in streams.

That being said, some of the fishes look very strange.
