Even a loose pivot will not cause an accidental opening. The spring pressure would still be holding the blade closed. You would have to lose the pivot pin entirely before it would allow the blade to come out of the handle, and then it would be separating completely from the handle.You should have no trouble with your knife opening in your pocket. Although possible to loosen the pivot to that point, it would generally result in noticeable blade play. In other words you would be fore warned the pivot was loosening.

The only way to get an Axis lock knife to accidentally open is to snag the thumbstud hard, and even then, the spring may well close the knife again immediately. I would consider it to be similar to a lockback in this regard.
