Could someone plz tell me again about conversation limits, can i delete conversations if I do will that remove them from my count. I thought deleting/leaving removed it, but i've already used 38% of my total 200. If I need to upgrade fine, just tell me how. I hate to not respond, but some of these guys just go on and on, 25 conversations sent from last seller. Any advice? Mac

If you leave the conversation, that removes it from your count.
Individual posts in a conversation do not count toward the total.
Think of it as a thread and the software counts "threads", not "posts".

ok, I've got 6 active conversations, yet it shows I've only got 160 conversations left???? When does the system catch up? Or am I seeing the "thread count" now instead of my total converstions, I just dont want to lob in one day and find I can't send anymore PMs, thanks Mac

If you have old PMs, from before the platform change, each message counts separately.
I know they SAY each conversation is separate...but, if that is the case, there must also be a message limit; because I've seen my mailbox showing as almost full, and I've never been close to the conversation limit.

okay, I'll just keep an eye on them. I like your signature, I'll be 63 in a few hours. Boy I didn't see that one coming, Mac

now it says 42% used, this morning was 38. Oh well if it gets full I'll just have to use smoke signals, Mac

That does not compute with my totals. It seems to count posts toward the total. I have 2 conversations and used up 8 of my total= 6 replies + the 2 OP

As for the OP- click on the conversation-you can leave it and that should reduce your total. It allows for you to still receive replies from the person(or not)

I'm curious is there a way to delete messages from a conversation? I really don't need to waste space on my own replies and have to end up deleting everything and starting a new one.
Also leaving a conversation and not accepting further messages, does this at least tell the other party or does it just send the message like it can be read?

inbox 42% full(250 max - 103 used, and I have 8 showing in conversations, rest closed. What am I doing wrong? mac I was here in Jan, spent 4 months in the hospitals untill 5/14, had a stroke, just been using it about 6 7 weeks total.

No, individual messages within a conversation cannot be deleted.

If you permanently leave the conversation, and the other party attempts to send a message, a notification appears (I don't remember what it says). It doesn't prevent further communication, all either party has to do is start a new conversation.

Sorry. I'm not tracking. When you go to your inbox there are only 8 conversations? But you have 103 conversations?
What do you mean by "closed"? I'm not familiar with that term for conversations.

Unread conversations show in bold. Conversations you have read but not left show as regular print.

To remove a conversation from your count, you click the check box next to it on the left. You can click multiple boxes. You get a popup and you click "leave conversation". If you just read the conversation without clicking "leave conversation", it still counts as being in your inbox and shows as part of your total.

Here's a screenshot of part of my inbox. These are all read conversations, but I have not "left" them, so they still count against my total.

I have 8 in my inbox like you show, I've left, "leave conversation" all the rest, but still gaing numbers. I don't mind giving you access if you want to look, Mac

You're not doing anything wrong. That is your total message limit 250. I'm guessing there's a lot of replies in those 8 conversations

There's no way for me to look. Spark, the site owner and admin, might be able to.

yeah like I said one guy hit me 24 times. I'll be rid of all by tuesday but one, Guess I could leave now and resend Tuesday. Just old not yet too slow. Let me try that, thanks I wasn't seeing it as counting reples , but rather conversations per say. This sounds promising , thanks again, Mac

Like a charm, one conversation had 37 replies, left it and one more, now look.

Inbox 23% full(250 max - 57 used) Thanks again for all the help, getting it thru my thick head was the problem, the solution was easy. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Mac

If the total seems inflated it's because it counts your own replies toward the total. No sent folder no way to delete. Considering free message board forum software offers this its a real shame this functionality is missing.

Considering everyone's PM limits were tripled or more when we changed software from vB to XF, and that this site isn't free to run, we have what we have. This isn't a "free" website where your personal data is being sold for millions of dollars to advertisers & government agencies..

Don't mean to offend, as a developer i understand the software availability is limited to have a pay for PM and restricted postings.
But if i developed it i would feel it necessary effort to include proper management of the messages because people are paying for them.
In terms of cost of data storage, a text based thread or private message use the same space but there's no imposed limits on using storage space for regular posting but only 15 messages with the basic membership.

Private messages are a perk for those who have paid subscriptions. There is "proper management" because you have the ability to delete & manage your conversations at will. Not familiarizing yourself with how the software works or it's terminology is a user, not software, issue. The "basic" level of membership is a "bare bones" level of features - avatar, limited private messaging, no ads, access to the trade areas, etc.

If I was earning millions off ads on this site, I'd be happy to offer FB levels of features, trust me.

You are more than welcome to develop a scalable, low-server-overhead, free solution; I encourage you to do so! Free hosting as well. I encourage you to offer this service to the world.
