I was looking at a case russlock on the net and have never seen one in person. How do the russlocks work? What is the lock? Is the tab on the blade simply used to open the knife?

Thanks~

Yep, the tab you see is an opening lever. The lock is an old-fashioned liner lock. By that I mean the knife has a traditional slipjoint backspring to hold it open, the locking tab is strictly a second safety. Mine has a substantial amount of vertical play between where the backspring holds the blade and where the lock stops it when you try to close it.

It is the sort of knife that demands a slip cover or belt sheath, as the opening lever is a real pocket eater.

Wow, that was easy. Thanks for the pics and info. Might need to get me one of those russlocks!

Or the new Trapperlock, as long as you like the single-blade trapper pattern. I do, and I've been carrying a new red bone version; great knife, although 4-1/8" is a tad long for pocket carry IMHO.

I've never liked the Russlocks myself, but each to his own...
