About that corkscrew

Every once in a great while I'm actually in my own kitchen. While there I usually drink good beer and Single Malt.
I often spend time in motels while I'm on the road and there the corkscrew on my sak comes in really handy when I get a bottle of wine or two.

I have no use for a corkscrew. I do not drink wine, can't stand the stuff.(I have tried them all, my sister is a wine nut)

I chose my Vic Hiker over the similar Camper just because it has a Philips driver instead of the corkscrew.

I thought I was alone in the world. Have had some fine wines served to me and it makes me want to hurl. :barf:

I personally have zero use for a corkscrew but I guess many of us might not be here if it weren't for this tool..

There's more of us than you know. Can't stand the stuff.

I have done my best to develop a taste for the stuff but it literally makes me shudder.

No sir, 100 proof straight bourbon or a good heavy stout and I will be your friend for life, I'll drink muddy creek water before wine. Chris

I only own one corkscrew and it is on my SAK. I don't drink wine (like others, I can't stand the stuff) - but if a visitor brought a bottle and then realised that it needed a corkscrew to open, well I just happen to have such an implement. So I don't use it - but at least I have it if the need for it arises.

If I bought a SAK specifically for camping I would be happy to not have the corkscrew though. My must haves would be: blade, bottle opener & can opener. My 'would like to have' features would be: saw & file. But my EDC having a corkscrew is fine by me.

I gave a friend a SAK as a gift. His wife had a meeting for a social group at their home and several of her guest bought bottles of wine. She was in a panic until he walked into the kitchen with the corkscrew. I don't normally carry a SAK with the corkscrew because I have never needed it. If any of my friends drink wine the lid will screw right off.

Whynacht,

Great picture and very pretty lady indeed:thumbup:

mneedham, many thanks. That picture doesn't do her justice. I am blessed with a beautiful, brainy, talented, knife and woods loving wife who shoots better than I do ... and ALL because I insist on carrying a Swiss Army Knife equipped with a corkscrew at all times.

You are lucky man:thumbup::thumbup: Corkscrews for all!

There are hundreds of different variations of SAK's. If you don't need a corkscrew just get a SAK with a different tool that more suits your needs.

Add me to the hate wine\wish my SAK didn't have a corkscrew list. It's been sort of mentioned, but I think the biggest reason so many of them have it is because of use in Europe. SAK's are obviously sold all over the world, but have their roots in Europe and they drink wine over there like we drink Soda.

Maybe I'm strange, but I keep my SAK in the glovebox. I've used the heck out of the corkscrew on improptue picnics.

Not wine, but someone has to try this with a machete.

AG Russell sells a dulled mini saber just for that purpose...never heard of the tree opening method!

Any other tricks out there other than the standard pounding the cork into the bottle with a screwdriver?

I've seen guys use the shoe method, its always a crowd pleaser.
I keep a Vic Spartan in my car, but I rarely use the corkscrew. The one that always seems to find its way into my pocket is the Tinker, I find the screwdriver on the back is more comfortable in the hand

I use a Vic SAK corkscrew to open all bottles of wine, even at home.If you want to know why,it's because I like to.

I refuse to buy wine with screw off caps. Complete and utter sacrilege

I do have to chime in on this... Why? I work at a winery in Oregon, I like screwcaps. The overall idea that screwcaps are bad is because people dont know the benifits... Not one drawback to them. More drawbacks to cork.
