? about these 2 steels.

i have a knife in AUS-6, let's just say i don't use it because i'm tired of sharpening it

I have no experience with high end steel like 154cm. However, i do have AUS6A knife (CRKT Point Guard). If you are thinking it as a user for daily (i.e. paper, fruit, etc.) but not repetitious cutting cardboard, it will be fine, even though it won't shave after perhaps few days of usage, and need maintenance (stropping). So far, it still cut and peel apple fine, i also use it for shaving (good result) and perform much better than my CCC that i use for general and lending to others (which edge is convexed to increase the edge holding)

However, my prior experience with slightly higher end steel (440C, Pacific Cutlery), it holds better edge (read: keeping it's sharpness longer).

So, I'd say from user perspective, it will be fine. However, if you really want to have a steel that last very long (even after a battle with cardboards :) ), 154cm will do better.

Hope that helps.
