About to buy a PM2 - Need advice on blade

Thanks for all the input guys.
I ended up getting a brand new black/black S30V for a song.
Honestly I've always loved black/black knives and most of my clothes are black so it works out.
I can always get custom scales if I want to spice it up.

After playing with this thing for an hour or two I know I'll be buying more of them.
I told myself I wasn't going to start collecting...
oh well...

 Congratulations. The PM2 is one of the best all-around, everyday folders that's ever been designed IMAO. Spyderco's S30V is a very good steel for everyday use, I don't think you'll be disappointed with it. It's like a Glock or a .25 Bic pen or an old Western Flyer bicycle. Ain't real pretty, nothing fancy... it just keeps doing what it does day in and day out.

That's how it started for me

I tell myself I don't have it that bad

PM2's: Black/black, blurple, CF m4, brown s35vn, cruwear,

Fingers crossed I can add the M390 but it's tight until tax time

This black/DLC was my first Para2.

At the time I thought one good folder would be all I need. Yeah, right.
Now I have 9 examples of the Para2, each with a different blade steel.
You should get the M390 while you can. I waited for 2 years for BBS to get another run in 'cos I didn't want to pay the higher after market price. Look, mine has a halo.

Here's one missing from that pic

Enjoy your folder OP. One is all you need....

m390, supersteel at it's best. Excels in all areas (except easily sharpenable). S110V is great, but it may chip out.

I'll regret forewer that I missed Foliage Green ELMAX configuration from BBS...:(
I don't know if it was a sprint or exclusive but I don't see them much in comments...they seem to be rare!

And what a combo! :)

Wow. I had no idea there was a problem with S110V chipping. I am very surprised by this. I just bought Para 2 S110V off the exchange a couple of weeks ago. I haven't used it yet. Hopefully I will be lucky and mine won't chip.

s110v is okay, but i prefer the s30v to it myself. m390 i prefer over both, but s30v shouldn't be as discounted as it is today. easier touch ups, and sharp edge feels like it last longer. working edge stay a good while on s30v. the s110v keeps a great working edge for a long time and superior to all the others, but i like that super sharp edge to stay longer than s110v feels like it does to me. note: none of this is based on any science, just my personal impressions.

High carbide fraction steels like S110V are, in general, more prone to chipping than low carbide fraction steels. You can search for carbide tear out and read up on it. Obviously, there are many factors at work, but in general a steel like S110V is more prone to chipping than one like 52100. There are always tradeoffs. Whether or not your blade chips depends on the geometry, heat treatment, and obviously the material you're cutting.
