Hi all, my first post will be about my new Spyderco!

I've been a fixed blade guy most recently and the only folder I own is a Leatherman Skeletool that I EDC. I've decided that I need a proper folder. I'm "pretty" sure that I've narrowed my choices to either a Sage 1 or Sage 2, but for the life of me can't decide which I want to start with.

I like the look of both, and would probably add a moonglow spacer to the Sage 1. The 2 looks pretty classy with the Ti, but I'm not really familiar with a frame lock.

Any words of wisdom on which way to go, both aren't an option lol.

Thanks!

Either are great. Although I like the simplicity of the Sage 2 I personally don't like titanium handles.

What about the scales don't you like? Grip, look, etc?

I have come to the conclusion that I personally don't like metal scales. I love the simplicity and look of the Sage 2 and Chris Reeve Knives but I don't like that the handles get hot or cold depending on the climate.

You can't beat the simplicity of a framelock. Have all the sage series and the 2 gets most of the pocket time, doesn't hurt that it has a Krein re-grind on it, it cuts like a laser.

I too just got out of my fixed blade obsession and delved into folders. I discovered some things: I still prefer fixed blades. And OMG have folders come a long way and boy am I impressed. I got the manix lightweight and g10 and x2 manix xl as my re-introduction into folders. Just recently got the Ti military. basically you cant go wrong with any Spyderco, so pick the one you want.

If it's a spyderco, you can't really go wrong. Sage Delica endura para-military military manix..... You get the point

I've been in a similar quandary about the Sage models...1 or 2? But if you are newer to Spyderco, and folders in general, and willing to consider the price range of the Sage 2, you should probably check out the Domino also. It's a slightly larger combination of the two. CF on face, titanium frame lock. And the addition of a very smooth flipper. So there are multiple opening methods in a very well built and usable EDC sized knife.

Sorry, I hope I didn't derail as the main question was Sage 1 or Sage 2. But you did say it was your first Spyder, so just thought I'd throw out another option that is in a similar size and blade shape range.

I briefly took a look. I had the grand idea this morning to buy the Sage 1, and with the saved money vs the 2, buy a Delica as well lol.

That's a solid combo. Just be warned that you've taken the first step down an expensive road. ;)

Personally I prefer the 3 but the Sage is a great place to start. If you don't like the Sage you probably just don't like Spydercos

Start with the cheaper one (sage 1). I've had mines for 3 years now and I still love it. I want to get a sage 2 one day but man I love the 1

I only have the Sage 1 and 4.
The Sage 1 is beautifully made (they all are), it's very light and to me the CF scales feel very nice in hand, not too smooth, a tiny bit grippy. For the price it's great value, with a classy look and feel to it.
Hope to also have a Sage 2 one day.
I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with either. I'm also fairly sure you will end up with both :)

I chose the Sage 2 and scratched the CF itch with a Caly 3 then 3.5... Ti shows wear more than CF I if that's a consideration. Personally I think the Sage 2 looks better once the scales are worn a bit. I've not found the smooth scales wanting. Good job on jumping right to the Sage platform - as mentioned you're about to open the floodgates!$! Welcome to the drenching.

If the choice is between a Sage2 and a Sage1 with a Delica then it is a no brainer. Get the Sage1 with the Delica.

I've had the 1,2 and 3 and would take a delica, native, Caly or pm2 over all of them any day.
