About to buy my first Spyderco

Honestly my favorite spyderco would be the PM2, followed by the manix 2 and then the delica 4. The PM2 is a lighweight knife that is between the price range of the sage 1 and sage 2. The manix is less than the sage 1 and the delica is by far the cheapest of the three. For the price of a sage 2 you could get a para military 2 and delica if you shopped the exchange here and don't mind picking up used ones. I would say PM2 all day though for your first spyderco in the price range you seem to be eyeing. The delica is a solid first spyderco at a cheaper price point so if you are a little unsure of the hole opening it might be better to start with a delica.

You made a solid choice with the Sage 1 and Delica 4. Both are in my opinion excellent examples of what Spyderco is about. Now since you have those you gotta start thinking about your next purchase, to go along with your Seki City and Taichung knives you need a Golden model. Maybe a Para 2 or Manix? Congrats on your first purchase and be prepared for many more.

I fought the PM2 purchase for like two years. I wish I didn't. It only had one flaw and I'm not even sure if it's a flaw. It breaks the ideal blade to handle ratio rules. But in general it has the most well rounded ergonomics im combination with a really useful blade shape and nifty lock.

You know how like benchmade really works the axis lock. Ppl love the axis lock because it flies open. The compression lock is a really nifty design. It should definitely be your 3rd purchase. And by then you might end up like the rest of us. You basically become set on trying them all at some point. The Spydie ergos for each knife are different and there is going to be at least one Spydie where you end up saying the ergos on this thing are perfect for me.

I never pulled the trigger on a Sage, as much as I'd like to have. Not into CF or wood, don't like frame locks, and I wasn't quite sure the bolt action lock would compare to the Axis locks I'm so familiar with. The Delica, however, I'm behind 100%. :D PM2 and Endura should be considered for the future, no doubt. Congrats, you picked a couple good ones.

just one more post to say you really cant mess this up.

Pretty much the whole line up is well reguarded

Good advice on the PM2 also. I waited until I had 10 or more Spyders before getting the PM2, and it is now one of my favorites next to the Domino. Pretty different knives, but man is it smooth and solid.

I have the Sage 1 and 2 and prefer the 2 because it's thinner and the Ti framelock is super sweet.

But I love the 1, too. As others have mentioned, it's more insulated against extremes of temperature.

Ordered my Delica, it comes with a black clip though. Anyone know where I can get a not black Spyderco clip? I went through a few threads but couldn't find anything quickly. I'm also considering ordering a non logo'd clip from someone here on the forums.

Thanks.

You can get replacement clips directly from Spyderco. They charge you $5 per clip, plus shipping.

But, your Delica came with a silver clip, you just have to "unwrap it" and remove all the black from it. ;) I just use the dremel bit that looks like a little Scotch-Brite ball and the coating zips right off and reveals a nice brushed surface, which you could polish if you wanted it shiny, but I prefer brushed.

Well shoot, I never even considered using the dremel.

Thanks!
