About to orrder my first Kabar Becker. 2 or 7?

If I had to pick between the two it would be close however I would go with the BK7. If you throw the sheaths in on the mix that would push me toward the BK2. Both are superior knives, you'll be happy with either knife.

Well I bought a BK2 and haven't used it yet. It is a chunk of metal. If around the regular campers I might even be embarrassed to pull it out. I'm not used to a short knife that thick. But then I might pull out the kukri first to keep people guessing about my sanity.

Bah.. I dont wory about what my fellow campers think about my big blades. They already know I'm a knife knut and expect me to bring BAMF knives to the campout. In fact, I think that's why I'm asked to go all the time Cuz no one else has good knives. :)

so whats the better chopper or wood splitter? the BK2 or the BK7? I would imaging the length of the bk7 is an advantage but then again so is the thickness of the bk2...

I bought the BK-7 first, thought it was too big then got the BK-2. I took the BK-7 into the woods and felt it was too small. Now I want a BK-9 also.

Clearly you need them all.

I bought the BK2 first and thought it was great. But,the one I really like is the BK9!It eats trees,it has become my go to chopper. For slicing I'd go with the 7,for tree wrecking I'd pick the 9,hands down!

does anyone know were i can order a bk2 online for a good price...my go to place for blades says its out of stock..

Interesting debate... :)

I own both, started with a BK-7, then got a Bk-2. Like most have said, the BK-2 is a great overall camp knife, the BK-7 leans more towards a chopper. Both are excellent, but I lean towards the BK-2 more these days. As I get older, I find that my preferencs is toward smaller blades.

Seriously, for the $$$ you can not go wrong with either blade.

Either knife is a good choice, if I had to pick one for my first knife I would go with the BK7.

ive used my old cammie bk7 for a long time and have pushed it harder than any oter blade i own. i recently bought a new ka-bar bk2 and have been using it for fire prep , batoning , chopping and limbing . the factory edge needs to reprofiled imo. too thick of an edge . playing out in the ole backyard with either will not show which one is more desirable in true backwoods situations and in fact you will find that the weight and balance differences force you to use each knife a little different. the lighter weight ,longer cutting edge of the bk7 make it easier to carry and use without sacrificing durability . the bk2 has a very thick design and a shorter blade and lends itself more toward a heavy duty camp / workhorse knife . all in all i would feel fine with either but the bk7 is more of what i consider a long range capable knife due to weight and balance and doesnt fatigue the hand as readily as the bk2 .

In the US Navy SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape) School I went to in the early 70’s, we used the Navy K-Bar 7 inch knife. Having been brought up on a farm and using machetes for our chores, I was very comfortable with it. I could do everything that we needed to do, quite easily.

I like the BK-7 better than the K-Bar, more rugged and durable than the K-Bar 7 inch, IMHO. The BK-13 will cover anything that the BK-7 is too large for.

If I could only have one knife, it would be the BK-7.

I keep a Leatherman Charge TTi, Leatherman Diamond-coated Sharpening Rod, Solo Scientific Aurora Fire Starter, and Coghlan's Emergency Tinder in the knife sheath’s pouch.

I could not make a decision (between the bk2, bk7and the bk9)
So I ended up ordering both the bk2 and the bk9
If I like them I will probably also get me a bk7 (to bad kabar does not produce the bk10)
I think these knives will make a big difference compared to my Glock field knife that I am using for my rough work now.
