  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

About to TRY to make my first knife

This may or may not apply.
One reason some people have a problem cutting with a sawzall is the work is not properly braced or clamped. Putting your foot on a piece of 1/4" steel while trying to saw it will be slow. Clamp it down or lock it in a vise.

I may be talking rubbish because I am not sure what a sawsall works like, but
with hardenable steel I have had problems in the past with drilling and cutting if the metal gets hot. I was told it forms a hard skin at the contact point when the drill or saw gets to hot.

I think a lot of angle iron is basically mild steel that does not harden with heat. It is just an Idea may be rubbish. I have chaindrilled and ground blades to shape in the good old days. hard work but satisfying when I finished. Now I have a band saw it is just hard work doing it other ways.

Don't give up you will get there and it will be worth it.
