Hi Guys,

I'm moving along in my hobby knifemaking and am going to upgrade to a 2 x 72". I'm looking at all the different belts on tru grit and it's very confusing since I'm relatively new.

I'm making knives only for myself and experimenting. Still, I would prefer to devote money to more material rather than try every grit of belt and type.

I did a bunch of searches and can't find a guide for the different type of belts.

Right now I'm primarily concerned with the finishing of the blade, satin into mirror. I know there is a lot of different definitions to satin but could any of you please point me to a guide or resource. Also, any suggestions on belts you like for the different stages would be more than helpful. Thanks

I use blaze belts 24 through 120, then I switch to norax 100X to 5X to get to a mirror finish, for satin I use a fine scotch bright belt

I use 60 grit blaze for roughing my bevels the 120 gator for finishing then onto hand sanding.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I saw the scotch brite belts, they are really expensive. Would you recommended them over the scotch brite wheel on the polisher?
