Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the belts from the above online source. Being unemployed for the last 7 months, and starting to see my savings diminish, I need to save as much $ as possible. I've used their products in the past for wood, and they hold up pretty well, but not sure about how long they would hold up to hardened steel.

Thank you.

Tru Grit probably has more for you to choose from. You can get AO belts for $3 and under, pick up a couple of Norton Blaze in 50, 100 and you should be able to do several knives

Thanks all. I've been using Pop's, and plan on again once gainfully employed, but was just looking for a less expensive option if it's out there.

Yeah combat abrasives are really cheap... I don't like how the belts grind for my style (low pressure, low speed generally ,and under coolant) but that's just me - others love them. And they will give free shipping over a certain amount on your order and a 10% off veteran discount!

It seems as though going for slightly cheaper AO or zirc belts when there are pretty good cheap ceramic belts (like VSM from trugrit) might be a false economy given belt life of a decent ceramic belt. I've had good experience with the VSM belts. Actually, it looks like trugrit's prices on VSM belts is cheaper than the zirconia belts at abrasive resource and only a little more than their AO belts, so...

I just did business with Phoenix Abrasives for the first time, and am pretty happy with them. I bought one of their kits of ceramic belts. I think they have a starter kit.

Thanks for all the replies. Would answers have been different if I was more exact by saying I'm primarily interested in 36 grit belts. I've got plenty of all the others.

Again, thanks.

Yep ! Get good coarse file :D

the 3m 984F i consider the most economical belt out there. it is one of the most expensive to buy @ $11.25, but i can get 12-15 knives out of one before it starts to feel dull. by comparison i can get one knife on $2.25 aluminum oxide before it feels dull. aluminum oxide would cost more than twice the price to get the same 12-15 blades done.
