You do know that there is a Hammer in there the Saturday before, on the 17th of October. You can get some good instruction then as well.
I live about 30 or so miles from Old Washington and Will be at the Hammer In but not the school.

I went last October. Jim Crowell, and Tim Potier are great instructors. Be prepared to have a whole lotta fun.

Rusty how about a little bit more info on the Hammer-In. Will it be just instruction or do you get to participate and play some too?

Hopefully I'll be at the HI as well. Gotta talk my MSG into letting me take a pass that weekend (hopefully I won't have a training lane scheduled). You'll love working with Jim. Ihaven't really worked with Jim, but I have spent several days in his shop observing and hanging out and he's not only an awesome guy but also one of my personal heroes.

Sorry Evan I didn't mean to Hijack your post!

They will have anvils and forges set up. just get ready to put hammer to hot steel and they have about a dozen or so grinders there some bader and some KMG. They will give instructon on grinding as well as Handle design and Heat treating. The instructors this time will be Mike Williams MS and J.R. Cook MS. But there will probably be some great JS there too.
B.R. Hughs will probably be there as well. You can ask any thing of these guys, Mike is a JS test judge so if you ask him to critique a knife get ready for some humbling.
Again It is at the W.F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington Arkansas October 17, from 8:00am to 5:30pm and will be a one day event.

no problem at all Rusty thanks for the info I plan on driving up that day so I'll catch the end of it

Hello Rusty. All I can say is a class with Jim is a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Tell him to slow down when he is forging. Tim is another great instructor. Evan you will enjoy it and learn a lot. I plan on being at the Hammer In in case Mike and J.R. need help with things. I believe Lin Rhea will be there also and maybe Jerry Lairson. It will be a good day.
See you there.
Brion

Thanks for the info Rusty. Sounds good, I am going to see if I can make it that weekend. Sorry for the Hijack Hevy.

Ahh more MS in the mix with the newest of the MS, Mr Lin Rhea MS and Mr Brion Tomberlin MS, and Jerry Larison is a master at carving as well as a MS. It should be a good day. I will try to have a few knives there as well.
