Hey Sam,

I am confused as to your threads meaning and purpose. Your thread title says your application was denied. To me that implies membership rejection, but the text of your message refers to your simply not being able to post to a membership forum. If you are seeking clarity about the ABS forum guidelines, here's a link American Bladesmith Society Board Guidelines and Rules where they are explained.

If you would like further information you could contact the ABS Webmaster. I believe you can contact him through a link in the Welcome To The American Bladesmith Society Forum thread.

If the intent of your thread is otherwise, I wish all contributor, readers and moderators well in their participating and partaking of the dialog.

Humbly, Phil

Phil, no my online forum application.

I understand why non members are read only, but it still sucks.

Well, by the same principle, I was denied being a millionaire by my bank. Their rules require me to deposit $1,000,000 first.
Congress denied me the right to submit a bill, too.

Join and you can submit. If you don't join, you are not being denied anything.

I understand your desire to contribute, but just like some things on BF, you have to be a member.

Dammit, more forums to read...

It would make it simple to keep out the trolls and spammers by only allowing ABS member s to post.

Plenty of good info to read there without being a member, I think its nice to have atleast one on-topic forum that takes a marginal investment in to post, it keeps the BS to a minimum and atleast you know a newbie was serious enough to pony up a few bucks for the privilege. There's also a captive audience of people (mastersmiths) with "from experience" responses that are more than eager to help, whom you can put a name to a face, which is worth way more than the membership costs imho.

I'd be thrilled if there was a Knifemaker only forum here.

Sam, don't worry about not being able to post on the ABS site; you're still The Man.

The mission of the American Bladesmith Society is preserving and promoting the ancient craft of forged knives through education, testing and certification and we welcome the public to view our website, Forum, and YouTube channel to learn more about our craft. We have members in 19 countries and we welcome new members every day who join our organization.

I have to approve all new registrations for the ABS Forum and only American Bladesmith Society members can join and then write or post but anyone can read most areas of our Forum. When we developed our new website and forum several years ago we wanted to create a place for our members to be able to have constructive and professional discussions and we have acheived that goal. One of the benefits of ABS membership is being able to ask questions about knife making which are answered by experienced and knowledgable Master Smiths and Journeyman Smiths.

Sorry Sam, but you do have to be a member of the ABS to post on the forum. You can read the posts except in the members only area. So join the ABS. You can join as an apprentice smith or associate. Sorry I think you may be too old for a youth membership.
The ABS forum was set up as a resource for our members and provides a wealth of information. By being a members only forum for posting it also cuts down on certain issues, such as spam, and helps us as moderators.
Should you decide to join Sam we would welcome you and your participation in the forum.
