Hey guys, I'm not associated with this event in any way, but I do plan on making it. I've never been so if anyone would like to comment on what to expect I'd love to hear about it.

The event takes place in Tulare California at the new College of the Sequoias facility over three days. October 24, 25, 26th and are all day classes.

Here's a link to the ABS announcement.

I'd love to know who's going.

Mike Vagnino and Ray Laconico as well as several other high profile makers will be there teaching and running the event.

Hope to meet some of you there!

Surprised no one on here planned to attend.

I've felt sick all day yesterday and today because I didn't end up going. Financial crises with the family car.

I did go to the Knife Show today though. Met some really amazing talents from all over. Met a lot of people that know people here as well. For instance, I met the owner of Tru Grit and had a nice conversation about Ian Hall. Hopefully his ears were burning! :)

While I didn't get to attend the workshops it was still a great time. Got to meet some of the Mastersmiths that I've admired for so many years. Even ended up buying a nice big chunk of 1/8" o1, Kydex and some stuff to put it together. I could have enrolled for what I spent on a handmade santoku, but that was for my wife and she deserves it. Got to check out a TW90 and the surface grinder attachment. Hardcore was there with some products. If I had won the lottery I'd have given my money to Travis though.

I guess. It's only at an event like this where you'll find a little giant power hammer in a parking lot next to another truck that had plates that read "forged". :D

Ah well... next year.

Sounds like the knife show was a good time at least. I'll have to make a trip to a US show one day. I'm thinking I'll go to the western canada knife association show next year. At least it's a little closer to home!

What are you planning for the chunk of O1?

I need to make a knife for my wife's friend. His collection was stolen. I've got plenty of 1084, but the size sucks. I think I got the last of Aldo's supply a few months back when he went dry. The o1 is 1.5" so I can design much more freely now. I'll likely do a wharncliffe as that's wear my (very limited) experience lies. I'll make the handle material and obviously a sheath as well.

I can't say if a Hammer In is a good opportunity to learn since I've never been, but I'd bet very real money that it will absolutely be exactly that. The vibe was just awesome being amongst other craftsmen and enthusiasts. There were at least a couple of guys that weren't makers, but brought jaw dropping collections. My bud Matt Freeman (Charlie Mike here) bought a killer balisong and I got to deliver a Busse sheath while there.

Don't be like me, If you can make a HI do it!! :)
