ABS knives, are they worth it?

''...The Cold Steel Nightshade...fully capable of slashing...' ????!

Are they now?
Would that be slashing via it's moulded "edge" or directly with it's pointed tip?
IMO, a "knife-like" tent peg is a more likey description...
Plainly these models are more stake than knife.

Maybe the Tai Pai is more like a stake, but the Kbit can slash a few times & would do some damage.

BTW, welcome "fdtehsbd". As has been mentioned, you have to watch out being caught with "undetectable weapons", but that aside, ABS weapons are single use weapons. They're good for their intended use, but definitely not as an EDU knife. Also, I agree about CS's Nightshade series, how do they justify charging so much for a kraton handled knife, but so little for a kraton handled non-metallic knife? Interesting...

I'm guessing they are just gouging the customer with those cheap rubber/kraton handles.

Makes you wonder about Fallkniven's kraton handles + even higher prices.....

They are designed to do two things: As letter openers or as shanks. Not good for much else, but they do those two functions well.

And, they are proof you really don't need exotic steel to pierce the human body with fatal results, as anyone who's spent time in prison can tell you.

Agreed. Still, they make formidable weapons in that they are light in weight and large. Both weapons will slash. Even a dull blade, when moving fast enough, will separate flesh. Either one of those shown is more than capable of opening someone's throat or arm, providing they are exposed. The edges will not go through clothing, but a slash to the throat and a stab can be extraordinarily vicious. The Karambit is especially able to open someone's throat and, if it enters just below the jaw and is thrust upwards, it can create one hell of a mess.

Good guess, and a very good point. Still, there are many people who have reported using Carbon V Recon Tantos and other Kraton-handled knives for years. Naturally, experimenting with these ABS weapons is the way to go to see how they'll hold up under standard stresses. The Kraton on actual knife handles is substantially thicker, in all fairness. The Kraton on the ABS knives is just a thin coating. Back when I did some scuba and snorkeling, I saw that many rubber products would crack and peel when exposed to sun and air. There was a clear, or light colored rubber, that you could throw on your roof for a year and it would show no signs of exposure. Kraton is supposed to be an adequate grippy material, but I've heard a lot of complaints. I've also heard of people carrying and using their Kraton-handled knives for years with no problems, so I have no personal experience of my own. I like my Recon Tanto and hope that it holds up. Only time will tell.

In my limited experience w/ cs non-metallic(a)---ha ha---knives I have found the delta dart--a homage to the devils dart to be x-tremely effective in its usage catagory.

I punched three holes thru both sides of a zippo lighter fluid can--the weapon was decidedly not as pointy but I gaaarountee it would still deflate an ego or two. Ive seen cs put the things thru a leather weight liftin belt-----eeshhhhh.

I own the current urban dart--metallic pushie---eeeouuuccchhhhh. nuff said

Peace to all;

cs recon tanto is currently available in a stainless steel variant; carbon 5 steel was reportedly produced by cammillus..gone.

the fgx grivory "tanto blades "used to be called the "cat tantos";and were made of different stuff

again recon tanto is a steel blade--and a hell of a knife.

aahhh heezus..sorry for the double post
