ABS Testing updates....

I talked to Gustavo tonight and he will test next year.

That really sucks! Hopefully he sold enough to make the trip worthwhile in spite of not being able to test. Those integrals of his are some of the cleanest I've ever seen.

Man, that sucks. I guess it might be a good idea to build a 1 day buffer when you come from far away.

I guess each day just adds to an already very expensive trip for them.

I enjoyed communicating with Gustavo, he's a very polite young man. Our friend Ivan Campos helped with translation.

I believe he was quite successful in that department.

4 out of 5 of Gustavo's knives were already sold when I got to his table about 10 minutes after they let in the VIPs.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with testing, but can someone confirm that Reggie Barker won the cutting competition?

Yes, Reggie, in his "Stars and Stripes" shirt, put on quite a show and won. That makes three wins for Reggie at Blade.

Robert

That Reggie sure is tough to beat when the chips start flying. Congrats!

Roger

Congrats to everyone who passed. I got to see some of the knives and they were first class work all the way!

I didn't test, I had decided not to a couple months or so ago.

Yes Reggie won the cutting, on a John Fitch disqualification. Big John not happy. He had two chips in his blade. But all is well. There was a lot of great bowies left for sale when the show closed.

I just got home and I bet I will sleep tonight!

Reggie's back on top! He is an awesome cutter! In fact all of those guys were great to be with during the competition. They were supportive and cheered for me and each other. My hat's off to them as sportman.

Yep, I never had so much fun gettin a butt whoopin.:D

Well the tripp is very expensive indeed, but the thing is he had everything figured out, including arriving the night before, but the local air company canceled his flight, God knows why, and he was delayed over 14 hours in his departure.

He really tried to do things right and safe, but it just didn't work that way. I wish there was some room for tolerance in these cases. A guy invests a lot of his money and time, travels from another continent to get tested and something like that happens...

I am glad he sold well and he could pay his traveling costs and meet you all wonderfull people, but the main goal wasn't acomplised. That's a shame.

I'm curious - did he choose to sell his knives, or to keep them as is for next year?

He seemed quite upset, however showed the fine quality of an individual he is in accepting it and behaving admirably. Perhaps that is more important than waiting another year for his stamp.
He will be a great one and look back and remember it as only a small inconvience.

We could take up a collection amongst ourselves to pay for an airline ticket(say $100.00/individual) and he could make a knife to lottery amongst those that chipped in. or something.

Best Regards,

I'm in. I feel bad for the guy.

I'm new to the forum so pardon my intrusion here... But I have to say that I agree with Kevin. I was at Blade on Friday long enough to meet Gustavo and purchase his damascus gaucho. He seems to be a fine individual and he is definitely a great knife maker. Count me in.

The damascus gaucho is really a fine piece!

That's really nice of you guys!
if you'd like me to help I can call him and organize the making of this knife. Count me in for any help you may need from Brazil.

Jeff
