Strider or Buzz Lightyear.... tough choice for a little guy :D

Here you go.................... (I made sure to post a photo with knife content...........)

Who said getting older means growing up? Getta let the little kid in you out once in a while. Great costume

What I see in that pic is a child who has been taught the value of knives, rather than taught to fear knives. I see a child who possesses an exuberant appreciation and interest in knives, rather than seeing them as evil implements of death and destruction. What we see in that pic is the future of this "hobby" that we enjoy, the next generation of knife owners. In a country where so many kids are raised to fear knives and never get the chance to handle them and learn about their true value, I think that picture should be celebrated here.

You see all of that? I see a picture that's a little disturbing.

By all means, please elaborate. What is it about that picture that you find "disturbing".

I see a child who appears to like knives, not one who is so afraid of knives that he runs at the sight of them.

I don't see a child handling a knife in an irresponsible or dangerous manner (looks like he has a firm grip on that thing). I don't see a child threatening his siblings or pretending to kill a pet or cutting up a stuffed animal.

I don't understand how a person who takes the time to join a KNIFE FORUM would be disturbed by the sight of a child holding a knife.

Lol...then I shouldn't post a pic of my son. Granted he is older (14) But his carry ( not in school) is a ZT0350ts, a ZT0550, Spyderco Native, and a Leatherman Blast....with a good belt:) He isn't hurting anyone or breaking any laws so I don't have a problem with it.

You should! The only ones who would be offended are spydercobenchmadekai and csisland! Everybody else loves to see the "next generation" using and enjoying knives.

Yeah maybe I will, with him in camo even.

He is a Lance Corporal in the Young Marines. About to face the board for promotion to Sargent

 Nice  Post a photo and post it with PRIDE! That young man is one of the future brave young warriors of this great United States!

My 10yo daughter took interest in my knives so I explained to her that I think it's a great hobby to get into, but just know that sooner or later you'll be cut. Not life ending, or even stitches necessarily, but ironically the more comfortable you get with knives the more likely you are to get cut. (at least that's my opinion)

I agree post up those pics, and to the OP good for you for teaching the youngun about cutting tools, I was about his age when my dad gave me my first knife, and not only did I get a knife but I got a GUN TOO :eek::eek:, and I am forever grateful that my father and grandfather embraced knives and guns instead of fearing them , and instead of hiding me from them they taught me the proper way to handle both, not say OMG NO, They are the devil! I believe it was Larry Vickers who said and I am not going to quote him because not sure word for word what he said, but Larry Vickers was a 20 year Army Special Operations soldier, (including Delta Force), anyway he said something like , studies have shown that kids who grow up around firearms and the parents educate the kids on safe handling, those children are less likely to be "curious" and grab your gun when you aren't home, He also believes every child should be taught proper ways to handle a firearm , rather than hide the kids from them, and I'm sure the same goes for knives as well, nothing wrong with teaching safe handling of tools, as long as the kid shows the maturity to not do anything stupid with the tool I see it as a right of passage that is still one of my fondest memories of my childhood.

 I was thinking the EXACT SAME THING, like I posted when I was that boys age my father gave me my first knife, and a .22 chipmunk rifle. Fast forward to Sept. 12, 2001 , I am sitting in an Army recruiters office saying "I want to help get the people who did this"...

@ killgar I agree with your post as well, Most of the youth I've met today they want to know what knife is on (insert video game here), and I'd say the ones who Ive met at least have never used a knife for anything except for cutting their dinner, So to see a kid being responsible with a knife that isn't a steak knife, is awesome. Note I've posted in this thread what 3 times now ???lol

Looks like he just took Buzz Lightyear OUT. Nice.

Just got my 11yr old nephew into the hobby. Kershaw Baby Boa blem was my gift to him last year. He is hooked. still on the computer too much, but now its surfing knife sights as well. He has a list of "must haves" already. Looking for a scout knife this year. Grahated from Cub to Boy. Traditional I think is the way we'll go. NRA Hunter Safety next year. Pass the knowledge, safety and passion on to the next gen. Great pic.

I see your a member of the LEO's Group on here so Thank You for your service!

September 11, 2001 working mids, got to the station, heard what happened, grabbed my M4 with my AFCK in my pocket and went back out... just in case. IIRC most of my unit did the same.

IN RESPONSE TO EVERYONE!!
Thank you for the support!
The way I see it is my son knows I'm a knife junky to the fullest. I am not always gonna be in the house to protect my collection, the way I see it is he is gonna be curious about what dad is doing with those sharp things so I would rather show him and have him know what to do than check it out when I'm not around and hurt himself. Let's face it, we all did a little snooping as kids! I was a bit apprehensive about posting this but I couldn't be happier I did!! Thank you everyone for the positive feedback, solidifies that I'm not raising Waco part 2 or something

Nah....aside from a couple posters we don't think your a bad Dad

My boy was carrying a S30v Native when he was six.
