I got a SRK in SanMai III recently and it seems really tough. I dont mean the laminate as a whole, I mean the VG-1. It is much tougher than I expected. Do any of you have any experience or photos of abusing or beating on the SanMai III? If so, how did it hold up? Kukri or Trailmaster pics would be a bonus!

Vg 1 is very tough, but the core of san mai needs to be much harder. it doesnt chip or break, it bends, which is what the 420 is for on the outside. i have an r1 military classic i have a youtube video of me thumping on some. also i was out with a friend and did some prying insome wood and the point bent dissapointingly, but i just bent it back in the same spot. it wasnt exactly easy to do. but the srk has a much thicker point.

Wasn't the first or last time I used this knife as a hatchet.

Edge does tend to deform rather than chip as you would see on other large stainless knives. I say "chip" in the video but that is not what was happening.

Also, this knife will develop surface rust if you do not dry off the moisture and especially saps from various grasses. It buffs right off but this type of rust will develop in a few hours. Keep 'er clean and no worries.
