Acceptable blade play?

I'm not a fan of blade play, If it's an older user I try to fix it. It usually works.

I too think blade play is greatly overblown. I don't mind a bit of play at all, and in fact I think it may help under dirty conditions. Seems like it's easier to flush out dirt with a bit of play. I've got one knife that is about 70 years old and has blade play, yet doesn't affect the use of the knife at all. Still cuts as great as the day it was made. Yet, I can put a drop or two of 3-In-1 oil in the joint, work it around a bit, and stuff comes out down by the back spring.

To me it's kind of like an old 1911A1 pistol. Hold it up and shake it, and you hear all kinds of rattling. But shove a full magazine in, and all 7 rounds will go through perfectly, even if it's dirty as the original sin. I like that.

A little wiggle room is fine with me.
