Acceptably violent but perfectly normal knife stuff that gets said only on BF

I was commenting on a thread about the Kahr Arms Delica and I said in the post something to the affect that:

"what's nice about this knife is that it has a small blade about the size of a DF2, really cute, but its also really stabby at the same"

I don't believe I can really refer to a knife being stabby and have most people understand and not bat an eyelash.

There was another time I sliced open my thumb really, really bad. I probably should have gone and got stitches. A lot of the guys on the forum were like been there. Just duct tape it. Lol. Again didn't bat an eyelash about it.

Has anything ever been said on the forum that made your ears perk up, that you KNOW is totally normally and benign but would never be taken as such if it wasn't said within the safety of a knife forum?

Newbie here, but have seen some stuff said (and repeated) in certain areas of this forum that would not be accepted ANYWHERE else.
It's almost like the offensive joke that you'd never tell to anyone but your closest friends.
i won't repeat them as it may violate a TOS that I haven't read yet.

Multiple "What's the best fighting knife", lol...

Like there is a secret underground knife fighting circuit going on somewhere...

Lot of that going around.
Might as well have said pointy.
But I think that, in spite of all the braggadocio, its implied that the vast, vast, VAST majority here has never been in a knife fight (and/or been tangled any other survival situation, where their lives depended on a blade) nor would they have the slightest desire to.
Thats also why you should take such talk with a grain of salt and indeed not take the bragging/and or people trying to provoke others or brag about their knife exploits too seriously.
Id venture to say, that there would be a whole lot of shrieking, arms flailing and running, were some/most people, who say such things, to meet in person in a dark alley and say the same as on the forums (knives or no knives)!:D

People, including certain people who shouldn't, say things in the political subforum all the time that would not be acceptable even in the most socially conservative or liberal environments.

As knives go, I think much of practical tactical.

If you mean things that truly aren't wrong to say but society doesn't accept, rather than things that are accepted by the forum but not by society, I think the biggest thing is money. People spend some big money on knives.

Yes, though there probably are people who have a real concern about safety, and feel better about walking to the car, taking out the trash, etc. with something to help should they need it. Maybe a really bright flashlight would do the job, hopefully they have that too.

As I posted early on in the fighting knife thread on page one in GD right now, that thread might be better off in PracTac.
Personally it doesnt offend me per se and I posted in it. Its all mostly hypothetical anyway and further more, Im not a MOD, but it could potentially be some be construed as being beyond the scope of GD.

The money spent on knives would be absurd outside of the forums and knife community.

Only here could people understand a $300 pocketknife being a deal too good to pass up. I have purchased many without a plan of how I was going to explain it to my wife.

Shoot, if I saw a new Shiro for $600 I might snag it fast and worry about selling off other parts of my collection later. That is kind of messed up...:D

No doubt.
And for those fortunate enough to live where its legal to do so, they no doubt take what ever tool into consideration.

Exactly, I had co-workers ask me why I spend so much money on knives, and then yesterday one of them bought a $1,200 kitchen sink. Now the shoe is on the other foot! :D

The amount of monies spent of knives are a different kettle of fish altogether.
There are some VERY expensive knives here, but for the most part (including the figures you mention in the $300-600 ballpark) the numbers pale in comparison to what people spend on the watch forums for example. In regards to top tier watches, 600-1000 bucks would not even get your foot in the door.

The sales prices of most rare and super expensive customs here are what the top tier watches start at:)

My buddy just made a hand made carbon fiber sink. When asked why with all the hours spent, the answer was: "Because I can!:D"
