i was thinking about how to add a few features to a camping carry kukri... the handly accessory knives gave me the thought.

wrapping the sheath with 50-100 feet of paracord would be a good start - ya never know when it might come in handy, and it would protect the leather from getting banged up a bunch.

as well, it could be used to lash additional things to the sheath. i was pondering a "becker necker" - a nice little knife that could be useful as a spear, or small tough work you wouldn't want to subject the karda to (depending on the size of your karda as well).

also some inner tube rubber bands - forgot what the survivalists call those - there's a secial term ;P one could include a small container which also had an impregnated cloth with mineral or silicone oil for knife cleanup/protection too. some places are highly humid.

the only thing I can imagine a karda not being very good for is really fine slicing - they're usually REALLY thick for their size, but that's my opinion.

Adding a pouch for an oiling cloth is a neat idea, though. Seems like a great idea for a camp knife to me.

My favorite camping khuk is a 16" BGRS. I've thought about having a slightly lengthened frog made. The frog would incorporate a built in pouch containing a mini survival kit. This would also give the ability to switch between the frogs depending on your needs.

hey, nice!

is that the sheath with the leather removed, and the wood stained/oiled up? i was just reading on the survival kukri review that the leather gets kinda nasty if it gets wet.

the frog is way cool. whee! i like it.

i want to see a kukri sheath something like this:

Bladite this is a standard scabbard that had the original leather removed and refitted with good ol' American Cowhide that was then dyed and treated with Ballistol.

The leather may get slimy when it gets wet but it'll always dry out again.
Just remember that these rigs were used in the IBC Theatre as well as other really bad environments in the Pacific and other wet and jungle/rain forest areas and they served well enough.
Those are some fancy sheaths but kydek and nylon just has no soul to it for me.:(

pretty job, cow has soul :) moooo.

i like my kydex/nylon for certain things. less soul but more practical for me on occasion. it's nice when soul and practical combine, in ways sometimes you'd never figure.

They are called Ranger Bands...

Very nice job, Yvsa. I just finished wrapping a khukri sheath with thin pigskin. I left the black leather in place, and just wiped it down with acetone, and wrapped the wet leather using Elmer's glue to hold it in place, then stitched the back, like you did. I've done this a few times with no problems, but this time a big dark stain appeared where the wood halves join. Something seeped out it seems. Next time , I'll follow your lead and strip the leather off and glue the wood together. I like your auxiliary pouch on the frog, too.

Brian didn't mean to mislead anyone but I didn't modify this scabbard. Terry Sisco did it for me.
I was just relating what Terry did except I don't think he epoxied mine, I'll have to ask him. I'm certain that he did epoxy others or I misunderstood him when he related the story to me.
I really hate it that he has closed the Sarki Shop for good.:(
